    Brings to mind Ellen Cherry Charles and Boomer Petway driving cross-country in a large roast turkey at the beginning of Skinny Legs and All. Five or six of my favorite inanimate objects as protagonist ever: Painted stick, conch shell, can of beans, dirty sock, desert spoon, and one you’ll have to read the novel to know (perhaps NSFDecatur Metro).
