Decatur’s MLK Work Day Seeking Volunteers & Donations
Decatur Metro | January 4, 2010Every year Decatur residents team up on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend to help the area’s elderly make needed repairs to their homes and help with necessary yard work. (Photo courtesy of the city’s website)
This year the shifts are as follows:
Saturday, January 16: 9am to 1pm and 1pm to 5pm
Sunday, January 17: 1pm to 5pm
Monday, January 18: 9am to 1pm and 1pm to 5pm
From the city’s website…
When signing up, please indicate the shift(s) you have selected, whether you have any specific skills (skills such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, gardening, etc.), and whether you would like to join one of our special teams. Specific skills are not necessary.
However, while “specific skills are not necessary” the city is also looking for volunteers who can take on leadership roles. Along with volunteers with trade skills, the city is looking for leaders in the following areas: “materials expeditors”, materials runners, yard work supervisors, and the food committee.
If your interested in volunteering, contact Lee Ann Harvey at 678-553-6548 or send her an email at leeann.harvey@decaturga.com. Lots more info on the city’s website.
In terms of donations, this year’s budget is tight, so the project continues to welcome help with funding for supplies and “other costs”. According to the city’s website “If you are interested in donating, contact Susan Cobleigh at susan@decaturpreservationalliance.org or 404-371-4444 or go to www.decaturpreservationalliance.org.”
