    Teasing Big Decatur News

    Decatur Metro | November 18, 2009

Let’s create a little “Who Shot Mr. Burns“-style buzz, shall we?

Here’s a cryptic hint of big Decatur news just around the corner…

A man in red kicks, his face hidden within the heavy shadows of a Decatur alley, mutters “We will soon see the marriage between two of the most prominent Decatur names.  The marriages will be frequent and they will all rock.”

Michael Stipe is buying into Eddie’s attic and agrees to preform there regularly? Oooh, let’s start a rumor.

Surprised we haven’t seen this already. I think that’s it, Paste and Eddies Attic.

I heard that, after the success of The Green Concert over at Piedmont Park, Sir Paul is coming back to Atlanta for another benefit show. This one will be on the square in downtown Decatur and will be raising funds to bring back those red light cameras at Claremont & Scott.

No one has gotten it yet…though pieces of it are floating throughout these comments.

And I’m sorry raq3000, but I can’t do more than just tease. Only the man in red kicks can ease your pain.

OK, then– can you at least confirm whether the man in red kicks is Daren? That wouldn’t be giving everything away, but it might partially scratch our collective itch!

Excellent idea — the entire parking lot is optimized for stroller-sized spaces.

Eddie’s Attic has never had “late night” shows…but they have a few coming soon. They also mention new beer specials on their website. Could this be the marriage of Belgium Beer and Atlanta rock? Obviously Tom Waits is kicking off the series with the song “Red Shoes”.

    20. Andisheh Nouraee says:

      Old news, DM.

I heard about this weeks ago.

It’s the Eddie’s Attic Belgian Music Loft: Jacques Brel, Chimay, and absolutely no talking!

    21. Andisheh Nouraee says:
      November 18, 2009 at 5:26 pm

      No, wait.

Taqueria Del Sol is opening a second Decatur location, immediately outside the front-door of the current location. Go where your customers are.

Agnes Scott is teaming up with Eddie’s Attic for bigger concert venues. Old news.

      • Decatur Metro says:

        Obviously not to everyone Jooks.

        • cubalibre says:

So much for the big tease, I guess. *sound of balloon slowly deflating*

          • Decatur Metro says:
            November 19, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Heh? You don’t think that’s big news?

            • cubalibre says:
              November 19, 2009 at 3:06 pm

Oh, no– it’s not that it wasn’t big news. It’s that Jooks kinda let the cat out of the bag (I was anticipating you breaking the news with much fanfare, after torturing us all a little longer)…

              • Decatur Metro says:
                November 19, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Gotcha. Yeah, I agree with ya.

Would have been nice to explode onto the scene with the answer, but I was only allowed to give so much info away…which wasn’t the best situation when teasing…but I was itching to say something. I’m actually surprised the cat wasn’t out of the bag sooner.

So we’ll all just have to sit tight until red shoes, Eddie and Agnes release more details. Needless to say, this is something many of us have been talking about, but didn’t see coming to fruition any time soon…so it’s pretty dang exciting….even if it’s “old news” to some.

    27. Rain says:
      November 19, 2009 at 10:56 am

      Eddie wears red shoes?

      • Decatur Metro says:
        November 19, 2009 at 12:14 pm

No. You were right about the red kicks-wearer Rain. As I understand it, he brought the two parties together.

    28. Everlasting Gobstopper says:
      November 19, 2009 at 1:20 pm

      So . . . there’s no Tom Waits?

      • Everlasting Gobstopper says:
        November 19, 2009 at 1:22 pm

Is Patrick Duffy is still in the shower?

    29. J_T says:
      November 19, 2009 at 2:51 pm

The original tease was ill-worded, I think. You wrote “The marriages will be frequent and they will all rock”. Given the combinations of Decatur, Eddie’s Attic and Agnes Scott, I do not see much “rock” in store. And wouldn’t most of the marriages be illegal in Georgia? Doh!

    30. Eric says:
      November 19, 2009 at 2:54 pm

So what qualifies as bigger concert venues (to use Jooks’ description)? Are we talking about relatively new acts with a growing fan base? Tired old performers who haven’t yet gotten the hint they should have retired? Tribute bands who sound better than the original?

      • "Naaman" Gibbets says:
        November 19, 2009 at 3:51 pm

I hope they get Mastodon with …Trail of Dead and Electric Six opening. Then Decatur would rock for an evening at least.

    31. Jeff says:
      November 19, 2009 at 3:47 pm

So, what exactly is the venue going to be?

My band in the ’90s played at Agnes Scott, in a dreary basement lunchroom. It was not very exciting…although they paid us $300, which was HUGE money at the time.

Does Agnes Scott have a nice auditorium suitable for live music, or an outdoor stage of some sort?

      • DarenW says:
        November 19, 2009 at 4:38 pm

Presser Auditorium with 820 comfortable seats, good lighting, and good acoustics. We’ll contract in a high-grade sound system for each event.

Certainly we’re talking about “rocking” in a more generic way than say, Mastadon.

        • Jeff says:
          November 19, 2009 at 4:48 pm

That sounds great. I don’t know of any acts that “rock” that play venues that size with seated audiences, but it’d be a perfect venue for the type of acts that play the Rialto.

I’ll nominate a few for consideration:

          Wayne Shorter Quartet
          Tinariwen
          Bill Frisell
          Anvil

          • DarenW says:
            November 19, 2009 at 6:01 pm

Unfortunately, Anvil already has a gig booked at the Variety. I was so going after them.

            • Nelliebelle1197 says:
              November 20, 2009 at 9:28 am

I nominate Agnostic Front and the Damned. That would be the best concert ASC could ever host.

              • Brad Steel says:
                November 20, 2009 at 11:12 am

Will Rat Scabies and Capt. Sensible be available? If not, why should anyone care?

              • "Naaman" Gibbets says:
                November 20, 2009 at 1:11 pm

No, no, how about Sonic Youth, the Flaming Lips, and the Butthole Surfers?
Yes, the sonic trinity of my youth would be a good show.

        • Scott says:
          November 19, 2009 at 4:48 pm

“Snoozing is the new rocking.” — Jeff Tweedy, Tabernacle, ’02

    32. Andisheh Nouraee says:
      November 19, 2009 at 6:37 pm

This is good news. If Agnes & Eddie’s can nab a few of the musicians/bands that play Variety, I’d be very happy.

But I still think Taqueria Del Sol should open a satellite location in their own parking lot.

      • Decatur Metro says:
        November 19, 2009 at 11:20 pm

I still don’t understand how that MARRIES anything, except maybe Andisheh with a fish taco and a rocks margarita with salt.

    33. Nelliebelle1197 says:
      November 20, 2009 at 9:26 am

PLEASE DO NOT PERPETUATE CALLING AGNES SCOTT “AGNES”. THE APPROPRIATE ABBREVIATION IS ASC.

That’s is something the new people there are trying and we older alumna are revolting against it.
      Thanks, DM.

      • J_T says:
        November 20, 2009 at 9:37 am

Nellie, for what it’s worth, I’ve heard it called several other things MUCH more offensive and inappropriate than “Agnes”. However, to avoid being censored or banned, I will not repeat them here…

      • Parker Cross says:
        November 20, 2009 at 10:42 am

Rebelling, perhaps. I’ve never met an ASC grad I’d describe as revolting.

      • Emily Kandetzki says:
        November 20, 2009 at 11:17 am

So true, Nellie. When I was a student here we said “Scott.” Now ALL the students say “Agnes.” It makes me cringe.

        • Nelliebelle1197 says:
          November 20, 2009 at 12:17 pm

I hate it. I think it’s the work of the PR department.

          • "Naaman" Gibbets says:
            November 20, 2009 at 1:09 pm

Or perhaps we should just refer to it as, A swank girls’ school.

        • Steve says:
          November 20, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Now Emily, you know that you said “Mother Agnes” on more than one occasion.

      • Decatur Metro says:
        November 20, 2009 at 12:37 pm

ASC and Eddie’s doesn’t have the same ring to it. How about ASCEA?
