“SkaterAid” This Sunday at East Decatur Station
Decatur Metro | September 21, 2009 | 11:04 amSkaterAid launched in 2005 as a way to commemorate the life of Decatur teen, Ian Wochatz, who died of brain cancer earlier in the year. Now still going strong in its fourth year, the event annually raises money to help families who are affected by pediatric cancer.
Aside from a full day of skateboarding at East Decatur Station this coming Sunday, this year’s event will feature a Skateboard Deck Art Silent Auction (art is currently on display at the Brick Store Pub), an “old-time photobooth”, a full schedule of bands, a scavenger hunt and raffle.
Here’s some shredding action from last year to help get you in the mood…
NOTE: SkaterAid is SUNDAY SEPT. 27 – not Saturday, and will be held rain or shine!
E-Gads! I think the lack of vitamin D has my brain misfiring today. Thanks for the correction pbeastham!
This year’s Skateraid was awesome and from working the main gate most of the day … the turnout was HUGE! The bands were great, the food was great, the beer was great then ran out (but we live in Decatur … so The Brick Store brought more, even better beer!), Skate deck art & auction was great.. as was the skate contests, raffle etc. Wonderful job by everyone and I know we all had a lot of fun raising money for a noble cause.
