Pharmhouse Restaurant Takes Place of Caribbean Harry’s
Decatur Metro | September 9, 2009InDecatur reports that Caribbean Harry’s is gone and that former Sage chef Wayne Hamilton has already opened the Pharmhouse Restaurant in its place. For more details (like a menu and the origin of the name) along with interior pics, click over to InDecatur.
Dave calls it a “soft opening”, but I’d say its been downright covert!
We did Caribbean Harry’s a couple times. Let’s just say the place offered everything you’d expect from a Caribbean roadhouse — tasty, affordable food; but also “what’s your hurry, mon” haze-o-ganja service. I suspect it’s the latter that did ‘em in.
I like this line of the article:
When asked what happened to Carribean’s Harry’s, Wayne said they just weren’t restaurant people.
Guess not!
So what will be there next?
I’d like a martini, dry, two Zolofts and a twist.
LOL! That was precisely my reaction when I saw the “Pharm” part of “House”…*sigh* I wish the new restrateur all the luck in the world, but honestly– that name’s gonna throw folk a bit.
My thoughts exactly!!
I love phood.
hehe – Farmhouse is also a song by Phish!
We have cluster flies, alas! And this time of year is bad.
We are so very sorry, there is little we can do…
…but swat them!
I heard a rumor it will be the first restaurant in metro Atlanta to accept Medicare Part D.
That’s awesome.
Are they going to be holding the Death Panels there? Cool!
Don’t believe anything this restaurant says. According to Rep. Joe Wilson, they’re lying!
I went to a restaurant in Tibet once called “Special Chinese Herbal Medicated Restaurant.” We thought all the unidentifyable things in the soup were some kind of spice or something, but after the meal the whole group felt quite…. MELLOW, let’s say. Made us realize that the name of the restaurant was not only hilarious, but also quite accurate, and thanks to the special Chinese herbal medication, we had a lovely rest of the day. The name of this new restaurant reminds me of this experience!!!
I am excited to see the Chef from Sage return to the Square. I wonder if Michelle the manager is the same Michelle the former bartender from Sage. Miss Roy too!
I guess it would not be wise to buy any of the cerificates available on Restaurant.Com for Harry’s.
Considering that entrepreneurs are likely to be a huge part of any economic recovery, I am encouraged by the opening of Pharmhouse, but equally disappointed by the failure of Harry’s. They may not have been restaurant people, but I’m sure they were good people with lots of guts to open a restaurant in these lousy times.
The real question is: how many of the same kind of restaurants can we support in one square mile? Don’t we have enough of these types of places already? Where is our Alon’s or pasta place? Where’s our local deli? How about a frozen custard place?
Omigod, if there was an Alon’s on the Square….why the hell is there an Alon’s in Dunwoody and not in Decatur?!?!
Thank you very little for making me crave their lamb sandwich now when I will probably only have time to grab McDonald’s for lunch!
I know there are technical differences between frozen custard and frozen yogurt, but it’s hard to engender much support for the former when Decatur seems destined to have 37 of the latter. I definitely don’t think we need any more bakeries or pastry shops, even one the caliber of Alon’s. That market’s oversaturated as it is.
I’ve really been missing a Vietnamese option in downtown Decatur since Viet Chateau left (though Cakes & Ale was definitely a trade up). A ramen-ya would be awesome to have.
Can’t say Harry’s will be missed. We had the misfortune of eating there. SYSCO city. And the service, even when the place was completely empty, was terrible.
I just went to the Pharm House today forl unch (and very well may go back for dinner). It is a great addition to the square and I hope will be here for a very long time. It has excellent food, good prices and the waitress could not be nicer or more excited that we were there. This is my new go to place!
What did you order?
Not surprised. Tried it once. How can a restaurant call itself Caribbean and have no jerk, no curry’s, no brown stew or anything else that is from the islands. The only thing “Caribbean” on the menu was coconut fried shrimp!
Best of luck to Wayne and staff. We’ll be in soon.
Pharmhouse is phantastic! As a former Sage (Chef Wayne) devotee I am so excited that he has opened his own place. We have eaten at Pharm several times and each meal has been wonderful. The ribs are and the pot roast make you feel like you have just eaten at mama’s on Sunday afternoon. Kudos to Wayne and Michelle! We look forward to many more full bellies!!
Had dinner there tonight. I had the roasted chicken over smashed potatoes (skins on) and spinach. Chicken was a little bland, but it was exactly what I needed tonight. Hubs had salmon over asparagus risotta. We wanted to ribs and pot roast, but will just have to go back later when it is cooler (I like it to be cold outside when I eat comfort food).
We were told they were about to undergo a major renovation – which will be good. I got the impression they bought the place, ran out and got food, and opened the next day. All outdoor and most indoor tables were taken. We wish them the best and we will be going back.
Did anyone notice that some of the entrees are named after books? Nice…

Can’t wait to try it.
