Rain Moves Martinis, Cancels Concert on the Square

Decatur Metro | May 16, 2009

Like a little rain in your martini?  Neither does the Oakhurst Community Garden. Threats of rain in the forecast have forced the org to move its Martinis in the Garden fundraiser to the Friends School this evening.

Also, Cheryl announces that tonight’s Concert on the Square with Roxie Watson has been cancelled.   The Rain Barrel Auction, already once moved, is being pushed back again to the Arts Festival next weekend, according to Beth.

9 Guys, 3 Trucks

Decatur Metro | May 16, 2009

The Trash Amnesty parade circled our neighborhood this morning, hauling our over-sized detritus off the curb and into their trucks.

Aside from being continually impressed by these city employees’ ability to lift things well beyond my own limits, I quite enjoyed their general demeanor; always in complete control of what they’re doing, but having a good time.  Ah, the happy symptoms of a well-functioning governing body.

See y’all next year!  I’ve already thought of some items I accidently left in the basement.

Rick Riordan at Rec Center Monday – Hosted By Little Shop

Decatur Metro | May 16, 2009

Dave at Little Shop writes in with details about their biggest event of the year (after the Decatur Book Festival.)

Little Shop of Stories is hosting Rick Riordan, author of the incredibly popular and critically acclaimed Percy Jackson & The Olympians series, on Monday, May 18th at the Decatur Recreation Center.

Doors will open at 3:30 and Rick will start his presentation at 4:30.

Book signing to follow.

Walk if you can or ride your bikes. The weather on Monday should be unseasonably awesome. The Marta Station is only a block and a half away. If you drive, please avoid using the Decatur Library lot. You may park at the Decatur First Baptist Church (at the corner of Commerce Drive and Clairemont). A shuttle will run you to the Rec Center.
