Bistro In a Box Grand Opening – May 8th & 9th
Decatur Metro | April 28, 2009By now, I’m sure most folks have seen Bistro in a Box open in the Trackside strip along College Ave and wondered to themselves or a hungry spouse, “What kinda food do they have in there and how can I try it out?” Well now owners Kevin and Dionne McGee are opening their doors to the community with an official Grand Opening on Friday May 8th and Saturday May 9th!
Along with a chance to meet and welcome the owners to the neighborhood, Bistro promises “an array of complimentary appetizers, entrees, salads, delectable menu items, and featured wines”, along with “fun raffle drawings and door prizes.”

The Bistro in a Box Catering Company was designed to make entertaining easy and affordable. Clients can choose upscale platters, gourmet salads and much more to have delivered to their homes or offices. Handling the set-up and serving of the food themselves can save a family all the fussiness that goes with entertaining. It can also save them hundreds of dollars when hosting an event – and who couldn’t use a few extra hundred dollars these days?
Busy families can take advantage of the Bistro’s freshly prepared, family-styled meals that can feed four to six persons. They can leave the details to us and spend their time where it really counts – with their families. The experienced Bistro team can help even help clients customize their own Bistro in a Box menus.
With more than 18 years in the hospitality industry, the McGees also operate a full-service catering company – Horn of Plenty Catering (HOP). HOP has been in business for more than eight years.
Bistro in a Box is an economical option for entertaining that doesn’t sacrifice food quality or presentation. Not only is the food delicious, but the menus are also designed with convenience in mind. At Bistro in a Box, they make entertaining easy!
I wonder how close a business model this is to Super Suppers. Those are nearly all closed down – one just down the street near Corner Pub. I wish them the best of luck launching a new venture.
As a matter of fact, Bistro in a Box sponsored the Decatur Business Association meeting this evening at the new Cornerstone Bank office on Clairemont. They laid out a sumptuous spread that the crowd clearly enjoyed. I chatted up the owner, Kevin McGee, who was on hand with his friendly staff to tend to the food and meet and greet the DBA members. They have an extensive menu and can handle any event large or small. Whether you need party platters or just something for dinner, Kevin says to call in your orders and they’ll take care of you because “we’re cooking all day.” They have a welcoming storefront shop on College Avenue next to Wiggle and what’s left of the 5th Earl. It’s great to have two thriving businesses on the block.
I have been to numerous events (both public and private) catered by Kevin, and I can assure everyone that his culinary offerings are unmatched in quality and taste! He and his staff are very talented and always professional. Do not hesitate to give Bistro in a Box a try when planning your next event!
I’ve worked with them before and they have never ceased to amaze me! I’ve tried many different types of food from Bistro (including cuban sandwiches and gourmet desserts) and EVERYTHING has been wonderful!! The staff is very helpful, knowledgeable and it is the best catering company I’ve seen in a long while.
Does anyone know when they’ll be having another complimentary wine and food tasting again?!
been following them closely.. looking forward to the opening… will be there to try a little of everything… they always know what works well together… cheers to a great opening….
Enjoyed all of Kevin’s items he and his nice group of young servers presented to the Decatur Business Association. Looking forward to visiting Bistro in a Box — to try more. This just makes it harder to visit all the great food venues in Decatur. But we will keep trying.
I believe the Super Suppers location by the Corner Pub also closed, so hopefully the Bistro in a Box concept doesn’t mirror Super Suppers too closely!
I wish them all the best, and hope it starts to bring a bit of life back to that little retail area. Between Trackside, 5th Earl, and the Vintage (lighting shop?), that area is going through a tough time!
I concur with Dee’s comments. Their menu is extensive and, IMO, reasonably priced. Shop Decatur First !
