AJC Will Shutter DeKalb Bureau
Decatur Metro | April 13, 2009With all the breaking local news today, there’s no comfort this other, not-so-little announcement:
The AJC will close its DeKalb Bureau in downtown Decatur – along with Cobb and N. Fulton – come July and move all remaining DeKalb staffers back to Marietta Street.
Sigh.

I don’t think that’s the case yet. It will be in July. But not yet.
April Hunt, AJC DeKalb reporter was at the Dunwoody City Council meeting Monday night and stated that she will be informed of her new assignment or focus tomorrow since it may not be DeKalb local news.
I guess it is a wait and see situation?
I saw police escorting a large moving truck to that building this afternoon and wondered if it was related. Glad the actual closing may be later. I actually thought the office in that building was for ad sales or something similar.
I spoke with Kristina Torres, the DeKalb education beat writer for the past few years. She indicated she will work K-8 classroom issues for ‘inside the perimeter’ schools. I interpret that to mean DeKalb, Decatur, APS, and Fulton school systems.
Has this been posted on the AJC yet?
No worries – we’re not shuttering at DeKalb School Watch. Come over and find out the latest issues regarding DeKalb schools at our blog. We welcome comments, encourage dialogue and you can even submit your own articles to – where most will be published after review.
The internet will certainly take up the slack where the AJC lies down. C’mon over Kristina – you could be a regular contributor! (Of course, there’s no pay and no bene’s – but there’s freedom to speak the truth.)

Thanks Sellout. Guess I was reading too quickly.
Haven’t heard or seen anything Ernest, but thanks for the info.
Not good news, since I swear you could devote a beat writer just to CSD’s reconfiguration and still not completely understand the insane nuances of that issue.
No problem! She mentioned she would take a ‘wait and see’ approach to this. Given the current climate, she is glad to be employed. FWIW, she informed me of this at the DCSS meeting held at Heritage Center on 4/14.
FWIW, she did confirm that Terrance Moore (sports opinion writer) accepted the buyout. I’m waiting to see official confirmation of this.
