School Board to Consider $2 Million Budget Cuts Tonight
Decatur Metro | November 11, 2008CSD Mom writes in with this blurb, reminding me about CSD’s very important cost-cutting meeting tonight at 6:30p…
The CSD Board of Education will hear proposals from Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Edwards on budget cuts for the 2009-10 school year at their board meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Westchester. Recently, parent members of Decatur’s new School Leadership Teams had the opportunity in October 2008 to tell Dr. Edwards where they would cut $2 million from the 2009-10 district budget. See some of the highlights of that exercise in this video from Decatur EDtv: http://www.elifemagazine.net/csdbudget.htm.
Its a great video. Check it out if you have time. (Thanks Andrea!)
It will be interesting to see how the suggestions of the new leadership teams are weighed and taken into consideration by the school board, since that was the major bone of contention with the State Board of Ed when the charter application was tabled in May.
Cutting the budget by $2 million? Sounds like CSD is taking the bull by the horns!
Now only if the City would do the same thing and cut the budget by say a million.
The AJC now has a short report on the potential cuts which “… may include cuts to the system’s elementary-age foreign language program and teacher cuts”
taxus, I’m sure the City would look forward to your suggestions.
Steve
Your sarcasm is duly noted, as always.

I’m not sarcastic. If you have valid proposals for saving the City $$, let us all know about them. If not, then sit down.
Steve just SOUNDS that way, folks.
I AM sitting down, my friend
Was unable to attend the meeting. Anyone else go? I am curious to find out what happened.
David has a report from the meeting over at InDecatur. Anyone else have a recap? Did they not get into specifics?
Here’s a memo dated yesterday.
Okay, I’m using HTML tags and I don’t know if it’s going to work or not!
Thanks for the link to the memo, CSD Mom.
Kudos to the school board for putting this memo out there.
Nothing seems to be easier than seeing someone whom you can help but not helping.
I suggest we start giving it a try. Give love to the ones that need it.
God will appreciate it.
