Hi-Tech/Texaco Pumps Can't Adapt to the Times

    Decatur Metro | August 8, 2008

    Hi-Tech Gas Pump Sign

Fisher sends in this rather amusing sign from the “old school” Hi-Tech/Texaco gas station at the corner of Ponce/Candler.

What IS the deal with this place? If it wasn’t for the $4 gas prices on its sign, I wouldn’t even be able to tell that it was even still open!

Decatur is LONG overdue for some up-to-date- fueling stations….NOT NEW ONES, but improved cleaner safer at the location, that nasty CITGO on Howard, and the OTHER nasty CITGO on COlumbia…they are all filthy eyesores.

Visit this link to see how NICE the CITGO used to be on the corner of College and Columbia Drive….sadly, no more….

Does anyone know how long the owner has owned this station? Even after the name change? About 9 years ago, I dealt with the owner attempting to borrow a wrench to fix my bike seat while out riding. He wouldn’t let me borrow one, so I had to walk my bike home. I haven’t been in to buy gas since. If the owner has changed since then, I will reconsider.

Don’t buy gas…or ANYTHING there….CITGO is owned by the Venezuelan government. Not surprised by the wrench story…For some reason, a clean decent convenience store that is maintained and with a friendly staff is not
attainable near College Ave. or south of that point…just dumpy, dirty, run-down
ones. Too bad there isn’t a chain of NICE conveniece stores that don’t sell gas…
QT keeps it nice, clean and friendly, but they are MUCH TOO LARGE for city of Decatur.

jim…just so we’re clear, this sign is from the Hi-Tech gas station on Ponce, not the Citgo on College. Nice atlantatimemachine link though!

The owner of this Texaco is a very honest mechanic. I highly recommend him. We own two Accords and I have them do all the service. They do very good work for a very fair price.
