Village Vets Making Its Move
Decatur Metro | January 10, 2008
If you haven’t already heard, Village Vets is relocating around the corner from its current location on E. Howard Ave. The veterinary practice has broken ground on its new 11,500 sq. ft. post-mod facility at 217 N. McDonough St. (across from Decatur High School) and is planning to open this summer.
Pretty cool building. Want to see a concrete example of the benefits of having design standards guidelines? Compare the new building above to the Village Vets other location in suburban Stone Mountain.

Just one small clarification: Decatur doesn’t have Design Standards. We have Design Guidelines, which are not enforceable. City regs do have teeth, however, as it applies to the building’s relationship to the street and your images clearly show the vast superiority of a building on the sidewalk vs. a building in a parking lot. As for style, though, we’ll just have to let the traditionalists and the modernists duke it out.
Best,

Hmm…You’re absolutely right Scott. Not sure why I wrote “standards” instead of “guidelines”…corrected above.
