Gold, renowned for its opulent allure, holds significant value across various historical dimensions, from ornamental splendor and artistic expressions to its role in conveying political messages. In the realm of modern entertainment, this precious metal symbolizes the pinnacle of fame—think golden Oscars, dazzling outfits on the red carpets, and the inviting glow of theater signage. Nestled in the revamped W Hollywood hotel, Café Goldie shines with a radiance that captures this rich symbolism while introducing a new narrative layer.
Under the creative direction of designer Alexa Nafisi-Movaghar from Adean Studios, the venue blends classic Hollywood charm with a distinct Californian vibe.

The café is bathed in golden tones that mimic the sunset over the Hills, creating a serene ambiance as the cityscape merges into the sky. Custom-made brass fixtures enhance the atmosphere, and plush velvet seating in a deep mustard shade adds a sense of luxury and warmth. The globe pendant lights, reminiscent of vintage movie set vanity bulbs, evoke the enduring allure of Hollywood, where glamour is intertwined with personal intimacy. This creates a space that is both spectacular and approachable, inviting guests into an environment that feels both grand and intimately personal.
The romantic allure of the space is also inspired by its mythic muse: Venus, the goddess of beauty, love, and fertility. Echoing her captivating essence, the café’s design softens stark postmodern shapes with gentle curves and smooth lines. The marble counter resembles a finely crafted sculpture, while custom banquettes offer cozy seating, and chandeliers that resemble suspended orbs reflect both celestial and cinematic glamour. By weaving these elements together, Café Goldie positions itself at the crossroads of ancient mythology and contemporary culture, infusing every detail with a sense of story.
“In response to the newly envisioned lobby by Rockwell Group, we aimed to add our unique feminine perspective,” explains Nafisi-Movaghar. “While they captured the essence of sunsets and golden hours, we focused on Venus’ curvy, intriguing, and sensual attributes.”
This project transcends mere nostalgia. “The line between indoors and outdoors is blurred,” Nafisi-Movaghar points out, highlighting how the vast Californian landscapes also play a role in the design. Foldable doors lead to the patio, ushering in daylight and enhancing the continuity between the café’s cultivated ambiance and the natural scenery outside. This seamless integration celebrates the quintessential Californian lifestyle of engaging continually with the surrounding environment.
This ethos is reflected in the menu as well. Café Goldie’s culinary offerings emphasize freshness, mirroring the greenery that permeates the space. Dishes rich in vegetables act as an edible continuation of the interior foliage, with entrees adding a splash of brightness akin to sunlight streaming through filtered screens. The beverages, too, from invigorating cocktails to rich lattes, dialogue with the indoor’s golden tones, creating a holistic sensory experience where food, design, and atmosphere are in constant conversation.
The meticulous attention to detail enhances the experiential nature of the café. Every nook is crafted for comfort, allowing guests to fully relax in an atmosphere that balances dramatic flair with soothing moments of calm. The design ensures that the inherent drama of glossy brass and vibrant hues is tempered by cozy, secure seating and a multi-layered lighting scheme, making the glamour accessible and inviting.
Moreover, fabrication is integral to the narrative. Many of Café Goldie’s standout features are tailor-made: chandeliers developed in collaboration with I Works, mustard yellow velvet seating from Falcon, and retractable doors that redefine the entryway. Each custom element underscores the café’s identity as a carefully crafted realm, with finishes like Zia Tile’s Casablanca squares and Portola Paint’s honey-toned walls chosen to enhance the golden-hour story.
The overall impact is a dining venue that goes beyond typical hospitality expectations. Café Goldie emerges as a platform where design and dining enhance each other, reimagining the glamour of old Hollywood for an immersive, interactive experience. It invites guests not just to eat, but to engage in a spatial narrative where history, culture, and sensory pleasure merge, proving that true glamour can be as enduring and inviting as its legendary golden color.
