Tragic Love and Daring Escapes in “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon”
Last Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon saw the unfortunate separation of the new love interests, Roberto and Justina, confirming suspicions that their romance might face a grim fate.
The tension was palpable this episode as Guillermo and the men of El Alcazar expressed their displeasure over the disappearance of three of their own—a situation orchestrated by Daryl. They were also not pleased with Carol speaking out against their tradition of abducting young girls. Fede was tasked by Guillermo to demonstrate his allegiance, prompting him to arrange a swift departure for Daryl and Carol, believing it best they leave soon. Daryl, sharing this sentiment, urged Carol to pack up so they could quickly exit the town. When Carol expressed concern for a girl named Alba who had been sacrificed to El Alcazar, Daryl dismissively questioned, “Who the f–k’s Alba?” a remark that belied his usual compassion.
Before embarking on a mission with Daryl to find someone to repair his damaged boat, Roberto presented Justina with a compass necklace, symbolizing his desire for her to always be able to find him. They encountered Valentina, a former cruise ship captain now residing in a secluded lighthouse. Although she doubted the boat’s rudder could be repaired, she directed them to an old shipyard that might have the necessary parts. Valentina made Daryl promise to take Roberto and Justina with him to America, revealing Roberto’s dream of seeing New Jersey, inspired by his admiration for Bruce Springsteen.

Carol spent her time growing closer to Roberto’s father, Antonio, who treated her shoulder injury and shared his hobby of collecting old film reels. He passionately explained his commitment to preserving these films for future generations, a sentiment Carol related to a character from her past, Jerry, from the days of Ezekiel. Meanwhile, Daryl left a nostalgic token—a Rubik’s Cube—at a roadside memorial, mentioning it belonged to a kid he once knew, hinting that the child might have a new one by now.
At the abandoned shipyard, Daryl and Roberto located the rudder needed for the boat, but their activity stirred a horde of walkers. Daryl took it upon himself to eliminate the threat. Back in town, while Paz and Guillermo’s wife, Elena, shared a secretive moment, Justina discovered ribbons with her name on them among Uncle Fede’s possessions, suggesting he may have been protecting her from selection. Overwhelmed by guilt and a desire to make a difference, Justina ran to Carol and devised a plan. She decided to sacrifice herself by taking Alba’s place, departing with the El Alcazar men before Carol could intervene.
