Anne Lamott to Speak in Decatur on March 23rd

    Decatur Metro | March 12, 2012

Debra sends along this author alert…

    Anne Lamott
    March 23, 2012
    7:00 p.m.
    First Baptist Church Decatur

Anne Lamott will be at First Baptist Church Decatur (308 Clairemont Ave, Decatur) on Friday, March 23, at 7 p.m., for lecture and signing of her new book, ”Some Assembly Required: A Journal of My Son’s First Son.” Lamott is the author of more than a dozen bestselling books and this delightful new nonfiction work is a vibrant, sweet and often funny account of a new and unexpected chapter in her life…grand-motherhood. Stunned to learn that her son Sam is about to become a father at the age of 19, Lamott kept a journal about the first year of her grandson’s life. It is full of wonderful, moving details that every parent and grandparent will understand and appreciate, as Lamott describes how relationships throughout her family change and evolve. Sam, Anne Lamott’s son, will join us for this event.
This program is sponsored by Georgia Center for the Book in partnership with the First Baptist Church Decatur Conversations Ministry. No tickets or reservations required; doors will open at 6 p.m.

“Recycle Your Life” Recycling Event at First Baptist is Back

    Decatur Metro | May 6, 2011

From a First Baptist Church Decatur press release…

Decatur – April 15 – The second annual mega-recycling event at First Baptist Church of Decatur (FBCD) will be held May 21, 2011. Recycle Your Life, a mission project of the FBCD EcoCare Mission Team, is a community-wide recycling event that is held in the church parking lot at 308 Clairemont Avenue.

The event runs from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

When the EcoCare Mission team says Recycle Your Life, they mean recycle most everything in your life: electronics, cell phones, all working household appliances, household goods, clothing, shoes, onsite paper shredding and furniture. To see a complete listing of acceptable items please visit the church website at www.fbcdecatur.com. (Please note: some items are too hazardous to pick up and no items collected by local government curbside recycling will be accepted.) Two new additions this year include paint and toilets. Toilets are to support the reinstated DeKalb Toilet Rebate program. Citizens may bring cleaned toilets with all the interior mechanisms removed. “Many people do not realize that construction debris fill up to 40% of our landfills.” stated Beth Bond, EcoCare Mission team leader. “So it was important to not only to support DeKalb County but also divert the toilets from the landfills.”

Although the goal is to offer as much as possible for free disposal, the paint, shredding and some electronic items will have disposal fees. The paint will have a disposal fee of $1.00 per can regardless of paint can size. Televisions will have a $10.00 fee.

Recycle Dang Near Anything on Saturday June 5th

    Decatur Metro | May 18, 2010

Emily sends along this note about the rescheduled “Recycle Your Life” event at First Baptist on June 5th, from the editor of Southeast Green…

Remember that event where you could basically recycle almost everything you ever wanted to? And then it snowed. Well I dare it to snow on June 5th : ) In fact if it does, we will never plan it again ; ) We’ve brought in some new vendors and are waiting on a couple more to get back to us so make sure you check the list so you know what we are taking.

We are also looking for some volunteers if you feel like you can help. Decatur is helping with traffic support because they are expecting such a large turnout : )

For further details, including a list of what will and won’t be accepted for “recycling” at the event, click on over to the “Recycle Your Life” website.
