A Call for Questions – Decatur School Board Candidates Forum

    Decatur Metro | October 3, 2011

Deanne, who’s helping to organize next Sunday afternoon’s School Board candidates forum at the Church of Decatur Heights, is looking for community input.  She’d like to know what questions y’all might have for the two candidates – Garrett Goebel and Peg Bumgardner – vying for John Ahmann’s vacated District 1 seat.

Write your questions in the comments section below and you’re question might just get asked by moderator Geoff Koski!

Additionally Deanne notes that Julie Rhame, Board member and unopposed District 2 candidate, is looking foward to mingling with folks and answering questions during the Meet & Greet afterwards.

Decatur Heights Wins Kilowatt Crackdown Contest

    Decatur Metro | February 13, 2011

    From The Decatur Minute blog…

We are proud to announce that the Decatur Heights neighborhood has won the Kilowatt Crackdown. With 13 participants, and 3,500 kilowatt hours saved, this group was able to reduce their usage by 20%! This is certainly an amazing accomplishment, and one worth celebrating.

Of the users that signed up for the challenge and successfully linked their Georgia Power accounts to Earth Aid, Decatur saw a 1.46% reduction in electricity usage, representing an overall decrease of 1,800 kilowatt hours. That is enough energy to run your air conditioner 24 hours a day for over 2 months. During the competition, some users saved more than others. Among users that decreased their usage, the reduction was almost 12,000 kilowatt hours, resulting in a $15 savings per month on each household’s bill.

For their efforts, the Decatur Heights has won a neighborhood block party, which will be held in the coming months.

You’re Cleared to Land on Sycamore Drive

    Decatur Metro | August 9, 2010

From a recent Decatur Heights Neighborhood Association newsletter…

According to Peggy Merriss, Decatur’s City Manager, Sycamore Drive served as a runway for small planes before it was developed with homes.

    Whaaaa?

Oh man, if only I was good with Photoshop.

Residents to Discuss Sycamore Drive Traffic Calming Tonight

    Decatur Metro | June 17, 2010

Over at InDecatur, Dave announces a meeting this evening at The Church of Decatur Heights at 7pm for residents to discuss potential traffic calming measures along Sycamore Drive between “Hilcrest and the south entrance to the parking deck at DeKalb Medical.”

Dave states that “the objective is to discourage through traffic (which can take Arcadia and Winn Way) and slow traffic to improve the safety of residents.”

And over on the Decatur Heights blog, he has posted all the different road-widths along that stretch of Sycamore and gives a specific example of what could potentially be done to slow cars down.

According to Dave, both City Manager Peggy Merriss and Asst. City Manager David Junger will be in attendance at the meeting.
