Michael observes that “The Dequator continues to grow…” and sends along this link announcing that Atlanta area Farmer’s Market fav La Calavera Bakery is opening a brick and mortar location at 747-C East College Avenue in Decatur.

Here’s what the La Calavera folks wrote in their announcement…

For the last two seasons of local farmers markets, it has been our pleasure to bring our breads and treats out into the world for you to try.

We could never have imagined the thrill it’s been to see people come out every week and pick something new or go for one of their favorites.

We hope that you’ll do the same on a visit very soon to

    La Calavera Bakery

Historic Bakery Sign Uncovered in New Cakes & Ale Bakery Space

    Decatur Metro | November 23, 2010

    This is so cool!

Kristin Allin of Cakes & Ale writes in…

Regina Brewer is posting a photo of the amazing sign we uncovered at the new Cakes & Ale spot (151 Sycamore) on the Decatur Minute blog. …the sign is just perfect! It happens to be in the bakery space we are renovating on the left wall. I don’t have the photo with me, but I think it says “Mrs Teele’s Homemade Bread, Rolls, and Biscuits, Delicious Fruit and Meringue Pies, Cakes and Desserts.” It’s a very cool piece of our Decatur history and it just feels “meant to be.” If you pick up this story, we would love some help from Decaturites on any information they can provide about Mrs Teele’s bakery.

According to Regina at the Decatur Minute, Cakes & Ale will keep the sign and restore the plaster around it.

Any long-time Decaturites have any memories of Mrs. Teele’s bakery?

Piece of Cake Now Open in Decatur

    Decatur Metro | September 1, 2009

Piece of Cake - Assortment of CupcakesMarissa from Piece of Cake alerts us that their new Decatur store is now open in the Trackside strip.  Hours are Monday – Friday 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

And as soon as Gmail starts functioning again, I’ll provide even more detail and pics.  Stay tuned!

    UPDATE: Here’s the press release…

DECATUR, Ga. Sept. 1, 2009 – Decatur just got a little bit sweeter. Piece of Cake, Atlanta’s largest cake company, today opened a new store in Decatur.

Located at 307-A East College Ave., Piece of Cake’s new Decatur store is the company’s third retail location in metro Atlanta. Other stores are located at 3215 Roswell Road in Buckhead and 10971 Crabapple Road, Suite 1300 in Roswell. The Decatur shop is located near the intersection of East College Avenue and South Candler Street, next door to the children’s boutique Wiggle.

“We’ve been looking at Decatur for a long time and have seen an increase in customers from that area at our other stores,” said Melissa Bunnen, founder of Piece of Cake. “Decatur is a special, close-knit community, and we’re really looking forward to being part of it. We feel like Piece of Cake will be a great fit.”

Piece of Cake Bakery Coming to Decatur

    Decatur Metro | June 25, 2009

With his general nonchalance and third-person speak, Winnona Park Stud mentioned in a previous post…

Winona Park Stud noticed that the “For Lease” sign is gone from the old Victory Vintage space on the corner of College and S. Candler. Piece of Cake Bakery is opening next door, but doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the old VIctory space – anyone know what’s up?

A check of their website confirms that Piece of Cake is opening in Decatur early next month.

The bakery currently has two other metro locations: Buckhead and Roswell.  Piece of Cake is probably the best-known Atlanta cakery.  Getting them into the Trackside strip is a big get for the city.
