    Blue Elephant Book Shop Closing

    Decatur Metro | February 3, 2012 | 2:21 pm

Just received this announcement from the folks at Blue Elephant…

Blue Elephant Book Shop trumpets its last

It is with enormous sadness that I write to you today to tell you that the book shop will be closing, probably in mid-March. Whether it is because of the economy, e-readers, on-line sales, my own misjudgments, or, as is most likely, all of the above is immaterial. The fact is we are not selling enough books to sustain the business.

In our four years, we have taken great pleasure in our relationships with old friends and new and hope to continue that in other ways. We appreciate the support so many have given us. Until the doors close, we will continue to offer the same friendly service; and, as always, we’re here to talk about books.

Thank you from all of us,

Laura, Erin, Kimberly, Linda, and Rachel

    Jonathan Franzen Tickets Almost Gone

    Decatur Metro | August 26, 2010 | 1:01 pm

Kimberly at Blue Elephant just wrote in with this…

A heads-up for locals still needing tickets to the Decatur Book Festival’s free keynote speech by Jonathan Franzen: seating is limited and this is a popular event, so tickets are going FAST. Blue Elephant Book Shop, Agnes Scott College, and Little Shop of Stories are all completely out of tickets. Charis Books will be out within the hour. Bound to Be Read Books reports some tickets still available, but that number will dwindle quickly.

    See y’all at the Festival!

Blue Elephant Book Shop Opening Delayed a Week

    Decatur Metro | June 4, 2010 | 10:03 am

Another update from Teresa at Blue Elephant, who’s moving into the old “So Rare” space at 407 West Ponce de Leon Ave…

Although we tried as hard as we could, Blue Elephant Book Shop’s reopening date of June 5 has been postponed due to unforseen problems. We are all packed and ready to go and are just waiting for the go-ahead. We believe to be in the space by the middle of the week and are hoping that we can have our grand reopening party on Saturday, June 12. We will post more updates as soon as we know for sure when the date will be.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and your positive comments. We are as eager as anyone to begin our new adventure.

Blue Elephant Book Shop Opening Delayed a Bit

    Decatur Metro | May 29, 2010 | 11:18 am

An update from Teresa at Blue Elephant Book Shop on their move to 407 W Ponce de Leon Avenue…

Just an update on Blue Elephant Book Shop. We have run into a couple of snags and our reopening date of June 1 has been postponed. We are now shooting for June 4 and are still hoping on having our Grand Reopening Party on Saturday, June 5. We will be open in our current location on N. Decatur through Memorial Day. We will give an update in a couple of days when we know more.

Blue Elephant Book Shop Moving To West Ponce

    Decatur Metro | May 4, 2010 | 1:24 pm

UPDATE: Teresa at Blue Elephant tells us that while the shop will indeed open June 1st, the “Grand Opening” will take place Saturday, June 5th.

“Low-catur”, as it was recently called in a comment, just keeps on gettin’ better!

According to an email just sent out to patrons, the Blue Elephant Book Shop is moving from the Publix plaza just north of Decatur into the old “So Rare” space across from Watershed and Farm Burger at 407 West Ponce.

Here’s the note forwarded to me by both Michael and Shannon (thanks!)

    Dear One and All,

We have some big news for you from Blue Elephant Book Shop. As of June 1, we will be in a new space. The lease is signed, renovations are underway, and–although we are confident that this is a good move–fingernail-chewing has begun in earnest. Our new address is 407 W. Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, 30030, so we will be about 1 mile from where we are now. The space is smaller than our present space and will have a cosier look, but will still have our individual imprint and friendly, expert staff. For those with local knowledge, the landmarks are two doors west of Taqueria del Sol, two doors east of Dancing Goats, and directly across the street from Watershed.

If you have any questions, please call us at 404-728-8955 or email us at [email protected] .

Wish us luck with the daunting task ahead. Moving itself is never fun, even if the end result is.
