Supper Club at Farm Burger Rescheduled for Next Tuesday

    Decatur Metro | January 11, 2011

Angela from the Atlanta Community Food Bank writes in…

Supper Club at Farm Burger Rescheduled for Next Tuesday, Jan. 18

In the interest of safety, our friends at Farm Burger have made the decision to move Supper Club to next, Tuesday evening, Jan. 18 instead of tonight as originally planned. They will be open today, but encourage customers to check their Facebook page or call 404.378.5077 for updates, as they may need to adjust their hours of operation depending on road conditions. We greatly appreciate Farm Burger for their flexibility and we’re looking forward to a great turnout on January 18.

Two Ways To Support the Atlanta Community Food Bank in May

    Decatur Metro | May 8, 2010

Both Twain’s and the Iberian Pig have cooked up ways to help out the Atlanta Community Food Bank this month.  (Oh the bad and obvious puns, they hurt!)

First off, on Saturday May 15th, Twain’s will host “Springfest” for a second straight year, which will feature 14 bands, BBQ, Twain’s beer (of course), and a silent auction.  Tickets are $10 and available at the door the day of the event.  All proceeds benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank.  Doors open at 12:45a and bands play from 1p-12m.  For a list of bands and more info, CLICK HERE.

Two days later, on Monday, May 17th, Iberian Pig chef Chad Crete will host a cooking class at Cooks Warehouse in Decatur as part of the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s Simple Abundance series.  The menu for the evening runs the gammut from Croquetas de Queso to bacon-wrapped dates.  Wine tastings and raffle prizes round out the evening.  For more info and to purchase tickets, CLICK HERE.

Exchange “Food for Fines” at DeKalb Libraries April 5th-17th

    Decatur Metro | March 23, 2010

Want to reduce those overdue fines at the DeKalb Library without breaking those $20s in your wallet or purse?

    From the DeKalb Public Library…

This spring, the Library is offering patrons a chance to help needy people in the community and reduce their overdue library fines at the same time. Working in partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, the Library will deduct $1.00 in overdue fines for each item of food a patron donates, to a maximum of $20.00 in fines.

Food for Fines will run from April 5 through April 17. Library Director Darro Willey said patrons will be able donate food at all of the Library’s 20 branches which are currently open for service. He hopes everyone will participate.

    DeKalb’s Housing Future Unveiled

    Decatur Metro | November 21, 2009

Decatur PD’s Juanchella Francis forwards a note from Dan Reuter at ARC about a Wednesday, December 2nd Atlanta Regional Housing Forum at Decatur’s Maloof Auditorium.  According to Dan’s note, it’s only the second time the forum has ventured outside Atlanta in many eons.

Both Decatur’s Lyn Menne and DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis are scheduled to sit on panels that will try to predict the county’s housing future – “Housing Challenges – What to expect in 2010″ – and discuss “Housing’s Role in a Sustainable Future”.

To read more about this Wednesday morning forum and to register, click here.  The forum is free, though a canned food item for the Atlanta Community Food Bank is requested.
