The city of Bordeaux, celebrated for its 18th-century architectural splendor and recognized by UNESCO for its classical beauty, serves as a portal to one of the most esteemed wine regions globally. Just a short 10-minute stride from the historic Saint-André Cathedral lies the Mériadeck district, known for its striking modernist structures from the 1970s with a brutalist flair and a vibrant art community. It is within this renewed urban enclave that the Marty Hotel Bordeaux has established itself. More than a mere boutique hotel, it stands as a cultural center for the arts within the area. This independent 61-room hotel is incorporated within Hilton’s distinguished Tapestry Collection.

The 4-star establishment, aptly named Marty Hotel, cleverly combines ‘Mériadeck’ and ‘arty,’ reflecting its dual function as a bridge between the district’s commercial roots and its flourishing arts scene. The hotel’s main level, which houses the primary restaurant, the front desk, and a business center encased in glass walls, regularly transforms to showcase art exhibitions inspired by Street, Pop, and Muralist movements, featuring works predominantly by local artists. These exhibits are thoughtfully curated by MAGNETIC Gallery and L’Artillerie.
“Our aim was to offer our guests an opportunity to engage with an aspect of Bordeaux’s culture that extends beyond the usual focus on wine and historical buildings,” explains Pierre Lecaroz, founder of MAGNETIC. “The project has proven to be a significant commercial success.”
Designed as a ‘creative laboratory,’ the Marty Hotel moves away from the conventional static gallery concept. It is envisioned as a dynamic, interactive space where art is not just an adornment but a core element of the hospitality experience. Artists such as Monkey Bird Crew, Xavier Jambon, and Ërell are frequent contributors to the hotel’s vibrant art scene.
The hotel’s design pays homage to the mid-century modern style, reflecting the architectural character of the neighborhood. The decor combines raw industrial elements with rich wooden paneling, retro furniture, and a mix of textures. A stunning marble bar, highlighted by Belle Époque-style chandeliers, dominates the lobby, which doubles as a coworking space by day and a social venue by night. The restaurant’s menu complements the local ambiance, featuring a wine selection from nearby Margaux and Saint-Émilion and locally sourced charcuterie and cheese boards.
The guest rooms echo the hotel’s refined yet inviting aesthetic. They are cozy and functional, adorned with book-filled shelves and bespoke industrial lighting, and many offer terraces that provide views of the surrounding modernist landscape. The thoughtful use of materials throughout the hotel enhances the dialogue between its historical and modern influences.
Marty Hotel Bordeaux transcends the typical hotel experience, offering guests a deep dive into the thriving contemporary art scene that is redefining this southern French city. It exemplifies Hilton’s philosophy for the Tapestry Collection, which includes 135 upscale lifestyle hotels worldwide, each designed to reflect the unique and vibrant character of their locations. These properties cater to travelers seeking unique, localized experiences rather than the standardized offerings typical of business travel.
