F5: Tiffany Woodson on Retail Therapy, Fresh Flowers, Textiles + More

From a young age, Tiffany Woodson exhibited a natural talent for interior design, frequently rearranging her family’s home décor with enthusiasm. She encouraged her father to help shift furniture across the room, while she meticulously adjusted lamps and photos. “Every new arrangement brought me joy,” Woodson recalls. “The encouragement I received boosted my confidence, and I’ve been passionate about design ever since.”

At the age of 18, Woodson began her professional journey in interior design in California, where she was tasked with sourcing furniture for a design shop and creating display vignettes to inspire clients. Although offered the opportunity to open another location, she chose instead to move to Texas to further her education in design.

In 2011, Woodson launched her own design firm in Dallas, named INK + ORO Creatives. The name cleverly combines the detailed precision of “ink” used in architectural drafting with the ornate richness of “oro” (gold) used in decoration. Woodson applies this unique blend of elements to all her projects, whether they are boutique hotels or commercial spaces.

Woodson masterfully mixes opulent finishes with a well-curated selection of furniture, artwork, and accessories, creating rich, multi-layered spaces that are both sophisticated and intimately personal. She draws inspiration from local culture as well as international locales to provide unique, stylish designs.

Woodson allows her design ideas to develop organically, taking her time to ensure each concept is fully realized. “Ideas continuously float in my mind until I can manifest them into reality,” she explains.

Today, Tiffany Woodson shares her Friday Five with us!

1. Daily French Press Coffee

Every morning in Dallas, I enjoy a French press coffee made by my wonderful husband, Darren. This small ritual helps me wake up and organizes my thoughts for the day, providing a moment to connect with my family before tackling early-morning emails. Darren and I love experimenting with different coffee beans from around the world, making each morning’s brew a little adventure.

2. Inspirational Walks

Taking walks outdoors is one of my favorite sources of inspiration and reflection. Whether it’s the warm sunshine or the crisp morning air, it’s the perfect setting for creativity. I enjoy observing the architecture, landscaping, and overall curb appeal in different neighborhoods, drawing inspiration from the real-world design elements I encounter.

3. Exploring Retail Spaces

Though not a big shopper, my background in merchandise and fashion has given me a deep appreciation for retail environments. I could spend hours in a department store like Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, admiring how fashion brands create engaging displays and pop-up shops. Observing these fast-paced trends helps me develop broader design concepts that can be subtly integrated into interior design projects.

4. The Art of Fresh Flowers

At home, I find joy in arranging fresh flowers, a simple pleasure that adds warmth and a welcoming feel to any space. The aroma of flowers like white Roselilys can instantly uplift my mood. Depending on the season, I choose colors and varieties that reflect the time of year, enhancing the aesthetic of my surroundings.

5. The Influence of Textiles

Textiles often serve as the foundational element in my designs, encapsulating stories, themes, or concepts in their patterns and textures. Whether adopting a minimalist or maximalist approach, textiles start the creative process for spaces such as lobbies, rooms, or restaurants. I value the intricate work of textile designers and enjoy bringing their creations to life in my projects.
