Casa MRGT Is a Loft Where Industrial Charm Meets Urban Elegance

Casa MRGT, a creation of lamatilde, is a loft-style four-story apartment situated in an industrial complex in the Barriera di Milano neighborhood of Turin, Italy. Spanning 3,767 square feet with an additional 2,691-square-foot rooftop terrace, the apartment blends an urban, minimalist design ideal for a car designer from Canada. This loft is a true reflection of its surroundings, presenting an industrial yet modern flair that is a hallmark of lamatilde’s design ethos.

The distinctive feature of this apartment is its open layout, accentuated by various geometric structures that help delineate different areas within the space. The use of dark metallic finishes creates a striking contrast against the large, bright surfaces, enhancing the dramatic interplay of light and shadows that fill the space.

Strategically placed metallic structures serve not only as design elements but also divide the space into functional areas. These include a room crafted from burnished carbon steel that houses a home theater, and above it, a cozy guest bedroom adorned with micro-perforated metal sheets.

The base level of Casa MRGT functions as both a garage and a showcase area for the owner’s vintage car collection. Highlighted by bold yellow accents and visible structural frameworks, this space serves as a dynamic display area. A private freight elevator and a metallic staircase link this garage to the upper floors, transitioning from the stark industrial materials below to more refined residential finishes above.

The second floor of the apartment features an open-plan living space complete with a kitchen island custom-designed by lamatilde. The living area is furnished with Charles sofas from B&B Italia and classic Wassily Chair armchairs by Knoll, blending contemporary and timeless styles. The dining section includes a large Tavolo 25 table by Desalto, surrounded by Calligaris chairs, under the glow of an Algorithm chandelier by Vibia.

Secluded behind the kitchen are two bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom, offering private and comfortable living quarters.

The third floor is dedicated to the primary bedroom suite, which is organized around a central walk-in closet. This open-plan bedroom includes a walk-in shower and a standalone black bathtub, embodying a sleek, minimalist aesthetic. This area is also furnished with iconic pieces such as the LC4 chaise lounge by Cassina.

A wooden slat structure nearby provides adjustable light and privacy options and offers views over the living spaces below.

The crown jewel of Casa MRGT is undoubtedly its fourth-floor rooftop terrace, which provides sweeping views of the cityscape. This terrace is equipped with a pergola, an outdoor kitchen, various seating arrangements, a sauna, and a swimming pool, all surrounded by vibrant greenery and fruit-bearing trees.
