Nice that Clairemont is reopened and thanks DM for sparing a lot of us from driving right into that blockage.
Question: There was a traffic snafu thanks to a gas leak 9 days ago, back on Monday the 13th. Was that due to the same construction site or something else?
Speaking of 1000 Clairemont Ave. … have you seen the clear cut construction site? The mud strip goes back to Westchester Dr. I’ll have to google earth this to see how many trees were cut. Excellent example of why the tree ordinance needs to be revamped. So very glad it is being reconsidered right now.
Okay, you guys should really google earth 1000 Clairemont Ave. (and stop by and see the construction site, best viewed from Westchester Dr.) I can’t even count the number of mature trees that were removed. Unbelievable.
It doesn’t and that is why the ordinance is so outrageous. It hits the single-home owner hard yet there is very little consequence for developers that clear cut acres of land.
Agree that it looks a muddy version of the moon right now. I remember people back in the day describing that site as a hidden piece of countryside. Never went in there since it was private property.
Gas leak.
Of course there is. Ugh. Thanks for posting this, though, DM. Just about to head that way but will instead detour through Emory.
Keep us updated please!
Any updates would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Thanks Decatur Metro! Very important info. You continue to prove that this blog is worth every penny I pay! (And no annoying pledge week either!)

First gas leak was at Lawrenceville Hwy and DeKalb Industrial.
I believe there was also one around Little Five Points a few weeks ago (during afternoon rush hour, of course).

Can you explain how the proposed new ordinance will prevent what happened on Westchester Dr?

This! 100%.

does anyone know what they are developing on that site?
Seven houses. There are still ongoing water issues at the site.
Water issues like what? Springs? Runoff from rain? Getting water pipes in with adequate pressure?
Runoff during storms.
Cut every tree and bulldoze every blade of grass on a slope and you get runoff during storms? Gee, who woulda thunk it?
