NOTE: No Decatur Trash Pickup on Friday July 5th

    Decatur Metro | June 26, 2013

A couple of commission meetings back, the commission voted to close city offices on Friday, July 5th at the recommendation of City Manager Peggy Merriss.  This change to the trash pickup schedule, I’m guessing, is a result of that decision.  It’s also mentioned on The Decatur Minute blog. Here’s a note sent around by the city’s Lena Stevens that summarizes things nicely…

The schedule for trash, recycling, and yard waste pick up has been changed for the July 4th Holiday.  If your normal services are scheduled on either Thursday, July 4th or Friday, July 5th, your pick up date has been moved to Wednesday, July 3rd.  If you are unsure of your normal service date, you may check our online collection schedule map.

Set out time will remain the same.  Please have all garbage, trash, recyclables, or yard trimmings set out for collection by 7:30am.

Please help spread the word to make sure your friends and neighbors know about the change.  Questions about waste collection or recycling can be directed to the Public Works Department, , or send an e-mail to Sean Woodson, Sanitation Superintendent at .

What Was On Tap at the Brick Store Pub on Opening Night Back in 1997?

    Decatur Metro | June 25, 2013

    bsp

The Brick Store Pub is celebrating 16 years tonight with 16 new beers being tapped.  They just started tapping at 5pm, so get over there!  However, what I found particularly interesting was the list of beers on tap 16 years ago, which was included with their announcement.  Here are the two lists: one from 1997, the other for today.

    1997 DRAUGHT LIST (20 oz.  $3.75)
    Anchor Steam
    Bass Ale
    Blind Man Pale Ale .
***Recreated by Crawford Moran at 5 Season’s Brew pub
    Blind Man Espresso Stout
***Actually just “Steady Job Coffee Porter” masquerading as Blind Man Espresso Stout tonight
    Boddington’s  English Bitter
    Dogwood  Pale Ale
***Again, mad props to our good buddy and former owner of Dogwood Brewing Co., Crawford Moran for recreating
    Fuller’s E.S.B
    Guinness Stout
    Hoegaarden Witbier
    Newcastle  Brown Ale
    Paulaner  Hefe Weissbier
    Pilsner Urquell Czech Pils
    Sierra Nevada  Pale Ale
    Warsteiner Pilsener

A TOAST TO THE FUTURE WITH…

Fuqua Proposes Mixed Use Development at Scott Boulevard Baptist Church Location

    Decatur Metro | June 25, 2013

The Medlock Area Neighborhood Association reported yesterday that Commissioners Jeff Rader and Kathie Gannon recently met with neighborhood representatives to give a brief update on the Scott Boulevard Baptist Church location, which is being redeveloped by Fuqua Development.

Fuqua presented some “very preliminary” drawings at the meeting.  The MANA site summarized it as such…

    •  As proposed, the development covers 5.5 acres.
    • All ten homes on Barton Way are under contract.
    • A natural food store would serve as anchor.
    • The project is a mixed use development. In addition to retail, it would include 200 apartment units (5 stories high).

MANA states that they’re planning a larger community meeting about the development in July.  Jump over to the MANA site for more pics of the renderings and details.
