They’re baaaccck! WPoncer writes in…
I wanted to share this photo my son took on our front porch last night. Think there are two others in the trees with mommy nearby. We watch them (or maybe they watch us) from our back porch every evening. I posted on FFAF about the group rescue of one of these cuties Wednesday.
In case you’re new around these parts, here’s Part I from May 2012.
Can you give the link to the story of the rescue on Ponce?
OMG look at its cute little face!!! SQUEEE!!! I hear ours but rarely see them.
I had exactly the same reaction! (Baby animals of any kind tend to bring out the squee in me, though…)
Where on W. Ponce are you? My husband will be there with binoculars at dusk. He is owl obsessed.
gorgeous- thanks for sending this pic in!
Been hearing a few owls around Lenox Place for the past 2 weeks!
Very, very nice photo and story.
When I was younger, I use to snicker and roll my eyes at the signs at the main entrances to Decatur that stated “Decatur- Bird Sanctuary”. Today, lo and behold, I find myself constantly surprised and amazed with the natural world around our town.
Maybe it’s cuter if you’re expecting it and had been watching them for some time, But if I just walked out on my porch and saw this without warning, I’d need new underwear.
Aesop’s “The Owl and the Eagle” comes to mind (as it should for most parents posting on Facebook): http://mythfolklore.net/aesopica/bewick/32.htm
I had my first experience with barred owls last week and it scared the crap out of me. It happened two nights in a row, first night about 3:30am I was awaken by what i thought was the sound of crazed monkeys and living in Avondale Estates i didn’t know what was going on. Maybe some monkeys escaped from the CDC? LOL. The next night it happened around 8:00pm so it wasn’t as terrifying but my son looked it up on the internet and we realized what we were actually hearing were barred owls.
