on the positive side, i think the shopping bag motif is apt/clever, and the racks will be welcomed by bikers.
but i think it has limited shelflife from a design perspective because of the temporal nature of promotional slogans
would have preferred a more enduring signature design
“quelle surprise–he has an opinion . . .”
Rick, I get what you are saying but the bike rack will just date what part of Decatur’s history it is participating in. I like it.
honestly, i’m pleased to see them. guess my line of work makes me wary of memorializing branding.
Cow impersonator?
urban cowboy
I suppose that’s more respectable than Midnight Cowboy.
Less profitable, but decent tips from tourists for photo ops with the Urbane Indie-ans.
Hah! I just took a picture of this very rack thinking, “This will make a good eye on the street.” Serves me right for not checking DM often enough.
I don’t understand this design. How does it work?
I would place my bike flat against the rack, which allows 2 points to secure the front wheel and the rear wheel/frame. It also makes it possible to share the the rack.
So it’s a 2-bike rack? Maybe it needs to be labelled? Even though I have cycled a bit in my past life, I did not recognize this as a bike rack. I thought it was sculpture.
Note to self: don’t lock bike to or through letters of slogan.
There are a few more designs that were installed as well. Fun and “fun”ctional!
I agree. limited shelf life, especially after we annex walmart!
These are very welcome but I have to ask what if any increased costs there would be to install a rack that easily fits >2 bikes…
