Why was the Decatur Cemetery Pond Recently Drained?
Decatur Metro | September 13, 2012Melissa wrote in with this question yesterday. Here’s the answer from Deputy City Manger Hugh Saxon…
The Cemetery pond discharge pipe has a leak that is preventing it from filling to its design level. Repairs to the discharge pipe required the pond to be drained so the leak can be fixed. This should be completed in the next month.
The pond was temporarily drained two years ago during the first phase of the Cemetery improvements. During that time, the ducks and geese relocated for a while but returned when the pond started refilling.

This is, of course, a cover up…
The real reason they drained the cemetary pond was to clear out all of the water zombies.
Bet you won’t hear that from the main stream media!
I heard a Trader Joe’s and a Walmart were going in there.
Is there any hope now that the pond is drained of removing the snapping turtles? They eat the mallard’s baby ducklings, I’ve watched it in horror. I think that Turtle Gumbo would make a nice fall soup.
That would disturb me also.
The natural world is a disturbing place sometimes. Turtles have to eat, too.,
Indeed part of the cycle of life, but certainly not a pleasure to watch either. Out my window I can see cats sitting under the birdhouse waiting on the babies to come out, and it really annoys me. Last year I picked up one up that was badly injured/mangled but still moving around, and tried to see if it could be saved, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
Actually, IMO bird-slaughtering domestic cats represent a different kind of issue altogether.

Hey, that’s just nature’s way of making a turducken.
I’d be willing to pay good money to watch Hugh Saxon go in and try to wrangle snapping turtles! (My money would be on Hugh for the win! :0)
I heard that a dead body was found in the vicinity.
Yikes- Any other details?
I’m sorry, Daydreamer. That was an attempt at humor. Not my best effort, I guess.
LOL! I saw what you did there.
OMG, how did I not see that!? In my defense, I hadn’t been thoroughly caffeinated yet, but very clever on your part.
I do hope that the City has it re-stocked with fish. Great spot to take small children to learn to fish.
