CSD Sends Out “Important” Transportation Info Prior to 1st Day of School

    Decatur Metro | July 31, 2012 | 5:22 pm

CSD sent out this note earlier today…

Important Information from the Transportation Department

    General Information

    • Please check the district Transportation website  http://www.csdecatur.net/transportation/ for bus route schedules, procedures and information.
    • Bus News Flashes are updated from the field and are located on the District website http://www.csdecatur.net under News> Bus Updates or you may follow @CSDBusUpdates on Twitter.  Delays will be posted when buses are running at least 15 minutes late.
    • Buses will have the school’s mascot displayed in the window.
    • CSD will provide floating adult monitors who will ride a different bus each day.
    • Students will have bus tags.  They will be paper at first and then more durable tags will be issued.
    • Students may have water bottles on the buses.

    Expectations

    • Please expect delays the first two weeks.  Thank you for your patience as schools, drivers and students learn the new routines.
    • Requests for route changes must be made via email to Simone Elder [email protected] .
    • Route changes will be made the week of August 20th, if necessary.
    • Contact your child’s school first for any transportation concerns.  Schools will have staff on duty for one hour after the school day ends to handle bus challenges.
    • Parents may not ride the school bus with their child unless they are a chaperone on a field trip

    Bus Route Schedules

    • Check the Transportation website for a list of routes and pick up times.  Copies are also available at the schools.
    • Administrators at each school have lists with students names for each route.

    Transfer Point at FAVE- Morning

    • The Transportation Committee (CSD staff, parents and community members) and a Transportation Audit recommended a transfer point to efficiently use financial and human resources.
    • The 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue (FAVE) is the transfer point for Oakhurst, Winnona Park ESL students and College Heights PreK students.
    • Adults will be supervising and coordinating the transfers at FAVE.
    • English as Second Language (ESL) and ECLC preK students that live in walking distance to FAVE may walk to the transfer point.
    • Parents may not drop off their children in a car.  If students don’t walk to the transfer point, they must ride the bus.
    • FAVE students will exit the buses first.
    • Pre-K students will exit the buses second and will be escorted one bus at a time to the ECLC bus.
    • ESL students will exit the buses third and will be escorted one bus at a time to the Winnona Park bus.

    Transfer Point at FAVE- Afternoon

    • Buses will go to Winnona Park, Oakhurst and ECLC first, and then drive to FAVE.
    • Pre-K students will board their transfer buses first, then ESL students and administrative transfers, followed by FAVE students.
    • Adults will be supervising and coordinating the transfers at FAVE.
