DHS Students’ Rake & Run Service Project is On!

Decatur Metro | November 12, 2011

DHS teacher Chris Billingsley writes in…

The DHS Close Up Club will have our annual “Rake&Run” service project on Saturday, November 19, from 8:00 until 4:00. A team of DHS students and adult chaperons will come to your home to rake and bag leaves, clean gutters (adults handle this), and other types of yardwork. This is a free service but donations will be accepted. The club will use all donations to help pay for the spring trip to Washington, D.C. This is the sixth service project of the school year for CU students- two at Glenn Creek, Decatur Cemetery Cleanup, Cemetery Flags for Veterans, and the Dearborn Park/Renewal Competition (tomorrow morning). Please contact Mr. Chris Billingsley (cbillingsley@csdecatur.net) for a spot. As of 11/11, we have nine more spots to fill. Thank you for supporting DHS Close Up!

this is a great project led by one of our city schools’ treasures, Mr. Billingsly.
had the kids rake our yard and clean the gutters a couple of years ago–they did an outstanding job.

    +1

+1 on Mr. B being a decatur treasure and I don’t have kid! I have seen him teach and have dealt with him and his kids in fund raising efforts…what a “class” act!

Agree with the Mr. B. accolades. Basically, we need to have a referendum on the next ballot not allowing Mr. B. to retire.

This is a super idea. What is the usual donation amount?

This is my favorite fundraiser of the year! Have the kids scheduled to come to us on Saturday. They work amazingly fast and are very nice.

I would encourage you all to try to sign up and to be as generous as you can with your donation. Would much rather give these kids the cash than have to hire a yard crew to get rid of our leaves. You also might get a great post card from the group when they are in DC.

Extra kudos for actually using rakes instead of the non- stop, annoying leaf blowers.

Thanks to all that expressed interest in R&R. As of today (Tuesday) we have reached the limit of homes we can get to. Thank you for your support!

Awww man, I got shut out. Looks like Rake & Run spots are even harder to secure than Beer Festival Tickets!
