Old Grey Atlanta, She Ain’t What She Used to Be
Decatur Metro | November 9, 2011 | 2:23 pmA new, erratic poll by “Harris Interactive“, ranks Atlanta 15 out of 15 cities that folks want to move to if they were forced from their homes by very adamant Harris employees and move somewhere else.
Atlanta dropped 8 spots from #7 in 2010. As such, I suggest that Atlanta do everything in its power to change everything back to the way it was last year. I’ll start things off. We need to….
- Get the Thrashers back
- Return all developed strips of the Beltline back to their natural, trashier state
- Re-film the first season of The Walking Dead somewhere other than downtown Atlanta
- Never let it snow on Christmas Day again
What else? Hurry up! We only have a year before Harris conducts this crazy poll again!

Have a Kris-Kross reunion tour and start the backwards jeans trend back up
Brad wins.
Apparently we need to be more like Dallas which appears to be rocketing up the list of favorites. That is to say, arid, ugly, sweltering, and utterly charmless.
Great! I need you to run with that! How can we make Atlanta more arid and sweltering?
Cutting down all the trees would be a start. I suppose we could also dynamite Stone Mountain off the landscape. I’ll think of some others . . .
Implement a new ordinance that makes it illegal to use your car AC during the summer. If that’s not the definition of sweltering, I don’t know what is.
Re-open the Varsity Junior!
(and maybe the Walking Dead is the reason they don’t want to come here!)
I bet Decatur wasn’t one of the options!
Along with relocating Walking Dead, I’ll add un-filming The Change-Up and Hall Pass . Seriously, there should be someone vetting this stuff. No more filming licenses for movies that either 1.) make Atlanta look like it’s infested with zombies; 2.) suck.
Let’em leave or keep them away. I say more for the rest of us who are smart enough to stay and enjoy, and less traffic.
+1
Crime.
Ineptitude.
Corruption.
Cure those ills and Atlanta will start growing again.
PS: An air-conditioned dome over the whole area in summer wouldn’t hurt either.
Hold the Olympic games full time.
Elect a state government that will actually do something about reducing unemployment instead of just giving tax breaks to its corporate cronies.
If I was forced out of my Decatur home, I wouldn’t move to Atlanta either.
Ditto. If I had to, I might live in Grant Park or the Fernbank area.
