Not a fan of the Pumpkin Ales – luckily there are so many other types to choose from that I love. Had a Founders Centennial IPA last night that was very good.
Of course, I’m last in line for beer connoisseur status, drinking canned varieties many of my friends’ fathers might be too ashamed to take home, but I had a couple pints of Heavy Seas’ “Posit! Imperial Octoberfest Lager” last night at Thinking Man; fantastic!
I enjoy Fat Tire’s Hoptober, even though it’s not very challenging. Good and drinkable though.
As for pumpkins, I like them more than any serious craft beer drinker will admit. For a stronger pumpkin, I’d recommend Weyerbacher’s Imperial Pumpkin. On the lighter side, this year’s Terrapin is pretty tasty. I’ve never really warmed up to Dogfish Head’s “Punkin”.
Love this time of year as the days cool and the palate moves from pretty much exclusively IPAs to stouts, porters and the occasional Fall/Winter seasonal. Big fan of the Left Hand Milk Stout and Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout.
As discussed on Beer for Lunch, there are a few standouts among the plethora of mediocre fall seasonals. The Heavy Seas Prosit! Oktoberfest is the best I’ve had in the style. For the punkins, I really like Heavy Seas’ Great Pumpkin, Southern Tier’s Pumking, and Jolly Pumkin’s La Parcela (all three are very different). The Bruery’s Autumn Maple is also tasty; it’s similar to pumpkin ales but made with sweet potatoes.
Hoppin’ Frog Double Pumpkin Ale is my favorite. They have it at Ale Yeah (of course)!

Abita’s Pecan Ale tastes good to me.
Guinness and a Jameson neat.
Terrapin has a solid pumpkin.

Don’t worry about seasons, just buy some Wild Heaven and be done with it.

That would be New Belgium Hoptober Golden Ale. Fat Tire is another of New Belgium’s beers.
I tend to keep my gourd consumption limited to pies, breads and soups.

I like Sam Adams Octoberfest and the Spaten Marzen Oktoberfest —and I have a big box of both I picked up on sale at Costco a few weeks ago ; -)
Had a Southern Tier Special Harvest Ale last night that was quite yummy.
The Sierra Nevada Tumbler is also quite nice.

Second that Wild Heaven Invocation and Southern Tier Pumking.
Punkin by Dogfish Head is good, as is Post Road Pumpkin. I’m also a big fan of Weyerebacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale.
