I like that the person taking the photo is reflected in the side-view mirror.
Print publications, mobile devices, cosmetics, food, non-alcoholic beverages—all these that affect a driver’s ability to pay attention to the task of operating heavy machinery. :Exhale:
Can I put in a request for someone to “pretend” to knit a sweater while driving? ^_~
Bing Bing Bing Bing! We have a winner folks. For being the first person to turn this into yet another bikes vs. cars thread, WW wins….yep, you guessed it – A NEW BIKE! [hhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa].
Just kidding of course. I thought of saying something like that, but I just got hit by a pedestrian.
I nearly hit a bicyclist last year — he ran a 4-way stop, was using both hands to text and never even looked up as he sailed across my path, inches from my front bumper.
A few years ago, during morning commute, I got on 400 at the Buckhead Loop headed north and moved into the left-most lane. Caught up with a car driving somewhat erratically — inconsistent speed and weaving a bit. I dropped back, then carefully passed on her right. As I went by, I saw a young woman alone in the car with a phone cradled under one ear, a beverage in one hand and what looked like a planner or calendar braced on the steering wheel with her other hand, apparently trying to write in it. She was ranging between 50-65 mph and steering with her wrists, looking everywhere but at the road in front of her. I moved on up the road, as far from her as I could get.
Actually, the woman probably had above-average driving skills, compensating for her appalling lack of judgement sufficiently to have kept her alive to that point.
The texting cyclist was on what I call a regular bike — what online bicycle merchants call a “comfort” bike (I’ve been window shopping a bit) — riding upright and holding his phone in both hands, looking down at it.
Your implication that I made that up, or even exaggerated about it, is pretty irritating.
DM, I apologize for the questionable language, but I was giggling so much I just had to share. DTR is, this time, just an innocent bystander with a crude sense of humor (and an eye for brilliance.)
Good grief. Too bad the tag number isn’t in the pic, they need a public shaming.
Both are guilty
It actually looks as though the passenger is taking the picture, but I could be wrong.
What am I missing? Is the person in the Miata reading while driving?

Relax – they’re probably reading while they wait at the light – I do it all the time – If they’re dumb enough to drive and read, well…
Are you in my head? Because you weren’t there earlier! :0)
If we’re right, that means the driver who’s blocking the parking lot entrance is the @6#%! driver!
Hey. That’s my name. Give it back.
Or maybe… da da dum!… The light is red!
(Did I win? Did I win?)
i once saw someone driving at normal speeds on 285 while reading a brand smart ad. those ads are hard enough to read when you’re not driving!
And yet you concentrated hard enough to read something that wasn’t even in your own car. Hmmmm.
um. no. i took a quick glance over. have you seen a brand smart ad? they’re pretty easy to spot at an instant.
I have never seen anyone reading a newpaper on ther bicycle!

Something about an accusation of cyclist texting while pedaling doesn’t ring true to me. But hey, I wasn’t there.
Now, a female with poor driving skillz, that 110% believable.

Aha, when I think of a cyclist I think of the compression shorts folks. Not a beach cruiser. Now I can envision your scenario.
Can’t help but wonder if he/she was texting ‘look ma, no hands.’
Darn it, Gibbetts! We got moderated again!
Stop luring me into your evil traps!
DM, it’s all Gibbett’s fault. I was just an innocent rube, taken in by his clever phrasing. OK, maybe not so clever. Crudely humorous.
Your comment makes me wish there was access to the “unmoderated” version of this blog! That would be fun!
Sorry, dude.

THIS time.
