Decatur Beer Festival Tickets Go On Sale at Noon on September 19th!

    Decatur Metro | September 1, 2011

    Heads up kiddos!

This year’s Decatur Beer Festival tickets will go on sale Monday, September 19th at noon, according to the Fest’s Facebook page.  As you may recall, last year’s tickets sold out in 7 hours.  With the many disappointed folks who were caught off-guard by the quick sellout last year, I wouldn’t be surprised if they went even faster this year.

Anyone know what the ticket limit per person will be?

$40 a ticket- come on now, that’s a bit much. I remember the good old days when a glass was $20, the event was not crowded, they gave away good swag and served a full beer!!

This is probably the only “festival” in Decatur that I absolutely hate.

I like to have a good time as much as anyone else. But every year during the beer fest, downtown Decatur is overrun with staggering drunks.

        +1.

Why can’t we have a doughnut festival or a dark chocolate festival? I mean, there are sooo many places to drink beer in a 1 mile square radius in Decatur that every day is practically a beer festival, am I right???

(My husband is vehemently opposed to this posting…(sigh), Oh well…)

We value diversity, right? i think that extends to BDers (Beyond Decaturs) who swoop in to sample hops and take home a glass, leaving litter and grant funding in their wake. The Beer Festival is part of the fabric of our community. Parts maddening, joyous, humorous. (But get a designated driver or stay at the Decatur Hotel, for cryin’ out loud…)

Good news! We can! All you have to do, just like the Beer Festival, is build a coalition around doughnut or dark chocolate fans, form an organizing committee, sell City Hall on the idea of a festival, secure all the necessary permits, manage the requisite promotions, run the festival, and then give all the money away to worthy local causes. See? It’s easy! Now get goin’!

in addition to the great community grants generated by beer fest, you can thank beer fest for generating tourism dollars. I have several friends who have come from out of state to go to multiple Decatur Beer Fests. There are beer fests all over, but each have said they like ours for its laid back atmosphere and slightly older (read not all young 20somethings) crowd. Two out of staters coming again this year- can’t wait!
btw, some staggers don’t make a whole staggering crowd.

Good call. They updated their Facebook page to say MONDAY, September 19th – that or my illiteracy was kicking in again. Sorry either way!

        Monday Sept 19th at noon!

The one time I went to the beer Festival was enough. I got in the best way to do it. I was a volunteer.

Beer fest in Sandy Springs was $25 bucks a few weeks ago, why the high $40 price tag for the Decatur Beef Fest? Maybe better or higher quality brews?

At least I have 2 weeks to decided if $40 is worth it. Now if they threw in a glass + a tshirt, maybe.. :)

        lol @ Beef fest.

Considering they sold out in 7 hours last year, supply and demand.

      • smalltowngal says:
        September 2, 2011 at 10:31 am

It’s a fundraiser. They will — and should — charge what the market will bear. If you don’t think it’s worth the price of admission, that’s okay.

    9. Dec says:
      September 2, 2011 at 10:23 am

I’d love for them to figure out a way to let Decatur residents get first chance for tickets.

$40 is worth it, imo. It’s the best beer tasting festival in Atlanta. The quality of offerings they’ve had in the last few years has risen greatly from it’s early days.

      September 2, 2011 at 11:15 am

For those who hate the beer fest and bemoan downtown Decatur being overrun with drunks ever year, I guess my question would be…why don’t you just avoid downtown on that Saturday?

      • J_T says:
        September 2, 2011 at 1:44 pm

Because they enjoy complaining more than they hate the Beer Festival.

      • Craig says:
        September 3, 2011 at 4:20 pm

I will definitely be avoiding downtown Decatur that day.

But if I had a vote, I’d vote to ban the event. It’s not the kind of thing I like having go on where I live.

How about organizers rent a space in L5P, and hold it there?

I was going to make a snarky comment and possibly, just possibly, suggest that, if you don’t like having such things “go on where I live”, you could look into renting some space in Saudi Arabia and living there (because, see, Saudi Arabia would never hold a beer festival; plus, I’d get a “tsk tsk” from DM if I suggested that you move to Alpharetta).

But then I realized that might seem to be just a glib retort and possibly a veiled personal attack, so I’ll just “+1″ cuba’s response…

          *sigh*

Never been but I think the idea of Decatur Beer Festival is a good one. I think its fitting for Decatur, especially if its craft beers.

    12. El Jo says:
      September 6, 2011 at 12:38 pm

I do wish the price were lower though.

      • Steve says:
        September 6, 2011 at 1:29 pm

The organizers have to pay for the beer because you can’t give it away in Georgia. And, it is a fund-raiser, after all.
