Brent sends in a few nice photos from yesterday’s filming in Oakhurst of “Jayne Mansfield’s Car”, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Kevin Bacon and Robert Duvall, including the following at-a-distance shot that he says is Robert Duvall entering a car.
Robert Duvall, in my opinion, is one of America’s greatest acting legacies. He’s one of those actors where, when I am watching him, I don’t see Robert Duvall…I see only the character he is playing.
Just look at his body of work: “Apocolypse Now,” ‘The Godfather,” “The Great Santini,” “Lonesome Dove,” “The Apostle,” “Tender Mercies,” “Falling Down.” He can do anything, play any part.
When he (and a few others, like Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman) is gone, who can replace such a giant?
Right on, Token & DWang…I personally think Mr. Duvall should be declared a National Treasure. His performance in the final scenes of “Tender Mercies” made me weep– truly a thing of beauty, a sign of a master craftsman at work. If I met him, I’d be so star-struck I’d probably make an idiot out of myself!
I saw Dustin Hoffman interviewed one time. He said that when they were first starting out in New York he, Duvall and DeNiro all shared an apartment. Can you imagine?
Saw Hoffman and DeNiro appear on Letterman together a few months ago, it was pretty funny. DeNiro would hardly say anything, Letterman was nonplussed (and a good sport about it).
This could be a new trend–cool abbreviations for Decatur neighborhoods. In the ‘Hurst has an L.A. gang feel to it. In the ‘Lakes: Midwest feel. In the ‘Heights (Ponce, College, Chelsea, or Decatur): San Francisco feel. In ‘Chester: English aura. D’town, W’Park, in the Glenn’. MAK already sounds cool.
Great wide angle shot Brent!

And don’t forget Boo Radley and the iconic Maj.Frank Burns.
Or the old man in The Road.
. . . and the cabbie in Bullitt.
You’re kidding. I’ll have to watch it again.
And the bald guy in THX-1138
Consider what his absence means as well. Godfather 3 had all the makings of a great film, but no Duvall. Total stinker.

Ew, who calls it the ‘Hurst.’ Makes me think hearse. Goth era Chad woulda dug it. Cantankerous era Chad, not so much.
oh, almost forgot. And his brief cameo in “Sling Blade”, as Billy Bob (…got any french fried ‘taters…) Thornton’s father.
I would totally shop at DONOVANS discount.

I think Gene Hackman was in the mix, too.
Yeah, let’s not go there with the ‘Hurst thing, guys.

Strongly agree. Can’t say why, exactly, but it kind of sets my teeth on edge.
Because it’s stupid that’s why! But it just popped into my head so I wrote it down.
Been there!
You are weird. That is a compliment
Donovan’s Discount? Dammit, we’re never gonna get a Trader Joe’s.
I LOVED that guy in Newsies!
