I think such parking is cutting edge art, free expression, no conscience. There are many of these “artists” in 30030, not picking up poo after their dogs, not abiding crosswalks, etc. Maybe they live in the artist colony called Avondale Estates.
Sidewalk parking is a regular occurrence in front of Taqueria del Sol, both during lunch and dinner hours, with drivers often even blocking the fire hydrant. Have always been curious as to why Decatur Public Safety ignores the situation (as well as the illegal parking in the commercial block of Fairview). But they also seem to give a pass to The Marlay patrons who park in the yard of the lot next door and to the Dancing Goats patrons who park beside the building housing that business. Though unmarked, those areas appear to be a fire lanes.
I share your frustration about TDS parking, but I also have to admit that the sidewalk/parking lot in that area is a bit confusing. It’s sort of hard to tell where one ends and the other begins.
As for Marlay patrons parking in the yard of the lot next door – it’s the same lot, owned by the same person, so I’m not sure there’s any situation to ignore.
Agree, DM, that where the parking lot stops and where the sidewalk starts on one side of TdS is confusing (especially for drivers oblivious to the sidewalk pattern), but the property owner could easily paint a line indicating where parking stops. Don’t understand why the City doesn’t require that.
Regarding The Marlay, I’m talking about the area behind the tables on the grass (Farmburger side). I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to park in a front yard in both residential and commercial areas.
i HATE when people park on the sidewalks!!! major pet peeve…
See! who says there’s not enough free parking near the square?

Getting revenge on the jaywalkers.
It’s also illegal and you can be fined. call the Decatur Police to have them ticketed. the PEDS website has more detail.
