Let’s Pretend It’s Moving Day
Decatur Metro | December 2, 2010Here’s yet another lovely hypothetical question for all you Greater Decatur folks out there…
Imagine you had to move out of your current home for whatever reason (fire, another 500 year flood, a lost war with a horde of carnivorous rats, etc) and you were forced to leave your current neighborhood – what OTHER Decatur neighborhood would you most likely move into?

I have a crush on Adams Street.
Me, too… Adams Street is HOT. I could tap me some 2nd Avenue, too, though…
Me third on Adams Street– gorgeous!
I’m currently in Oakhurst and prefer places where residential and small businesses feel like they go together as part of the same neighborhood. So I’d probably look at the neighborhood(s) on the north side of West Ponce, between Commerce and the Post Office. That’s probably the closest we have to the Oakhurst/Oakhurst Village feel.
Oakhurst, because my kids could walk to all 5 of their schools.
You stole my thought!!! And I could stop off at Kavana’s on the way back. But then I read the post about condos…..no lawn, no rotten wood repair, no rats in garage….it’s a tough call.
My wife would kill me, but I’m ready to go vertical and lose my lawn.
I’ll take one of those mid-rise condos downtown (once they get their stucco problems worked out).
Oakhurst nice area lovely schools
You’ll never get us off Ponce Court. Even if our filled with radon, flooded, burned down and became overrun with zombies, we’d still squat in a hovel in the dirt.
But what about zombie RATS, lump? What then???
Zombie cats, I’m assuming.
Ponce Court. Live among the palms.
Great Lakes in a heartbeat. Beautiful neighborhood and as a former Chicagoan I just think it would be cool to have a Michigan Ave address.
I want to live next door to the bicycle guy on Adair so I can accidentally run over his bikes when I am trying to park.
That’s the Decatur neighborly spirit !
I almost hit those bikes once (on accident)…felt bad until I realized they’re only for show and both have flat tires.
Apparently, they are actually there to keep people going to Adair Park from parking there.
The stone building behind The Marlay House. (With some landscaping.)
I have always wanted to do that.
My wife will be living there with you, apparently, since she expresses similar intent every time we pass that building.
I would, after winning the lottery of course, convert the bank building at Clairmont and Ponce into a loft. No lottery? The Rainshine house would be mine. Oh yes, it would be mine…
I would move two streets over to Pine Street so we could stay at Oakhurst!!!
Oakhurst. That way we could tear down our 80 year old house and build a brand new Monster craftsman for 30% less than the other neighborhoods and virtually no gaff from the City! Plus, I love having to dodge hundreds of strollers while I’m trying to get jog or just walk to the pub.
hundreds of strollers? really? oakhurst=no place for hate (or haters)
It was a joke people! I actually love the new houses in Oakhurst that try to fit in with the neighborhood and I love the vibrance of the neighborhood with all the new families and kids running around everywhere. Geez, lightenup.
Where this guy doesn’t live.
Or, I should say, anywhere but where this guy lives
Hmpf. I’ll be walking my double-wide down to the village this evening, just because you said that. Maybe I’ll even pull the wagon with a couple of neighbor’s kids in it.
Make sure you have a couple of dogs too.
I’d like one of those waterfront homes on Maple Street.
Feeling honest today: I want something just renovated with screened-in porch, jacuzzi bathtub (air, not water, jets–latter grow mold), no yardwork (Southwestern pebble yard fine), lots of closet space, built in ironing board, built in bookshelves, built in entertainment center, then move every five years into similar. Anywhere in Decatur fine as long as seller/real estate agent finds buyer for my house now and every 5 years. Walk/rideability for children is nice, but secondary to my personal need for workability.
Oooh, built-in ironing board!
I want my home in Ponce de Leon Heights, minus the associated problems of a 70-plus year old structure. Even with a flood (unlikely) or a giant oak smashing into the roof (much more likely) I would still want to stay here …unless someone offered me ungodly amounts of money for this home … then I would have to think about it ….
Pate St. No blacktop for me.
Winnona Park, hands down. Not only I love the neighborhood, but my family could enjoy the school a bit longer, regardless of re-zoning.
Somewhere in MAK. I love those big old homes. It would be nice to have a bit more space.
