Pre-K Classes to Stay at College Heights Next Year

Decatur Metro | November 11, 2010

From Asst. Superintendent Thomas Van Soelen…

On Tuesday, the Board voted to keep the pre-K classes at College Heights for the 2011-2012 school year. This decision was important to make before the K-3 enrollment zones action item that will be at the December 14, 2010 Board meeting.

Thank you parents and citizens for not parking on the grass at Board meetings! Now all we have to do is keep the staff off the grass when they train at Westchester. Westchester Ave is a very long street with several places to cut through on cute paths to the Westchester property. Not that long a walk and real pleasant, especially since we are trying to be a walk and roll school system. Try it staff, you’ll like it!

Guess this means that we will see continued parking on the College Heights grass.

Really? Did not know that. Where? I haven’t noticed lately but isn’t the grass all on a slope? Yikes. Is there any alternative? Is parking along McDonough a possibility? I think there’s a sidewalk there for the little ones to walk along.

Come by McDonough at 8:00 and you will see the chaos. All the grass is not on a slope, so parents park on the grass at the bottom of the slope and on the sidewalk since you can’t really park on the street. There is also parking in fire lanes at times, which makes me really nervous. I try and come after the preK drop off or park across the street but walking with the 0-3 set across the street or sidewalk can be….”interesting”.

Look, parking at the site this year has not fun and I am still concerned about the stretching of this facility and the future administration of the 0-3 program. But I am glad a decision was made now and instead of flip flopping in the Spring. It’s when karass posted about the parking on the grass, I had to chuckle.

My boys and I call it “Frogger” to the Learning Cottage – oh, how quaint we can make overcrowding and traffic chaos!
