No Methlab on Ridgeland Ave
Decatur Metro | August 19, 2010UPDATE: Here’s Fox5’s segment on the non-event…
Sounds like there was quite the event on Ridgeland Avenue last night. From WSB…
Police in DeKalb County blocked off a street and called in a hazmat team to a Decatur home early Thursday morning.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Rebecca Lindstrom was at the scene on Ridgeland Avenue in Decatur and said officers were originally called out to a home that had a possible meth lab inside.
Officials said they received a call from a neighbor who said the homeowner was acting strangely.
DeKalb County Fire Department officials sent its hazmat unit to the home just before 3 a.m. after police reported something suspicious on the porch. Hazmat team members left at about 5 a.m., but the DEA’s Clandestine Lab unit arrived at the scene to take its place.
Just after 6 a.m., Decatur police said they did not find a meth lab in the home, but they did find some unidentified liquids and materials. Officials said the liquids and materials do not appear to be explosive.
Thanks to No Decaf for the tip!

Maybe not “eventy” enough- A Ridgeland Ave neighbor phoned to see if I knew why her street was blocked off when she left for work!
I understand that our neighbor may have been taken to a hospital. I hope it was precautionary and no one has been injured.
It’s strange to go out for the paper and find live news vans set up on the street.
The Fox5 item says it was for observation. Hope things are alright.
Let me get this straight – someone reported that their neighbor was acting strangely, so DeKalb blocked off the street, sent in the hazmat team, and called the DEA?
I think there’s a lesson here for all of us.
Stop acting.(?)
My friend’s brother, who lives near the drama, apparently snapped the perfect photograph for his cards this morning: DEA van parked outside his house.
I think one of the lessons is that the so-called War on Drugs has turned community police departments into tiny militaries.
There is actually a valid reason why Decatur PD called in the feds: if it turns out to be a meth lab, DEA will pay all the costs of cleanup if you call them first. If you as a local agency try to start on it yourself, it could cost upwards of $100,000 to clean up, and they won’t come in later to help you with it.
That street sign needs a little spiffing up–a sponge, water, and some Fantastik should do it. It looked a little dingy on camera.
Glad there’s no meth lab. That’s a resemblance to Oregon that we don’t need.
karass! I’ve thought that very same thing about a couple of the street signs. Maybe I’ll go clean this one just for you! :0)
We’re in big time trouble if they start coming for all the odd acting folks in Decatur Heights! Heck, who’ll be left in the neighborhood?!
I’m proud to report there are no meth labs over here on Coventry.
That’s breaking news! I’ll send the DMobile right over!
cluttered porch?
acting strangely?
under that criteria my entire neighborhood would be under DEA surveillance
It probably is. Look up in the sky.
lol that covers lenox place. we’re all gonna be watched now!
Uhoh, I’ve got a cluttered porch and usually act strange. But I don’t have a meth lab, although I do have quite a few crafting supplies.
After hearing those Georgia Meth Project labs, who would ever try that stuff? Those are very good anti-drug ads, much better than the “just say no” approach.
My first thought when I heard the WSB radio report was “Hmm. Wonder what DM and Ridgelandistan have on this?” Glad it’s a non-meth non-event but I’d say Coventry is still an area of interest.
Anything I can share at the moment would only add to speculation and gossip. There’s enough of that already.
Heads up guys. I just called the police to report that everyone on Decatur Metro has been acting strangely. They promised to monitor the site and subpoena everyone’s information from DM in case physical monitoring was necessary. They also said that, even if they couldn’t get the information about our addresses, they were fairly confident that they could round up at least three-quarters of the DM regulars within 2 days just by staking out Brick Store, Yogurt Tap and Dancing Goats!
As long as they do not go to the snoball place, I am in good shape.
Great! where else can i go?!?!
If I have to be monitored by the Decatur P.D., may I have a cute young one?
I’d nominate Officer Speed. He pulled me over for faulty brake lights. Can’t be older than 24. And his name is truly “Officer Speed.”
The Round and Round Park …..
The meth lab is actually a little further down the street. I know this because…uh…a “friend” told me so. Yeah, that’s it. A friend.
My down the street neighbor insists on picking up her morning paper while in her bathrobe. Pretty strange behavior, if you ask me. Should I call the FBI directly or go through the Decatur Police?
You should take a picture to post on Decatur Metro so we can vote on the proper course of action.
That bag of white powder under the carport is lime, officer. Honest. If it ever rains again, I plan on putting it on my grass…or where my grass used to be before years of drought. Not that kind of grass….Oh just get out the handcuffs….
