Win $500,000 For a Decatur Dog Park!
Decatur Metro | June 3, 2010What would you do with $500,000 to makeover your local dog park?
Thad points out that Beneful is currently holding an online contest where the grand-prize is a whopping $500,000 to makeover a dog park in your area. To enter, all participants have to do is make a two-minute video detailing what they would envision as their ultimate dog park.
This dude explains…
Sounds pretty simple, right? Well, apparently not simple enough since this contest started way back on May 3rd and there are only THREE entries thus far. The contest ends on June 18th, and then beginning in August folks will vote online for the winner.
With so few contestants and an online voting component, I’m pretty sure we could win this thing.
So, if anyone feels so inclined to take the lead on creating the video, I’ll provide my full support. You can brainstorm ideas on how to spend the money below in the comments section, and once your video is up I’ll post it here. And when voting time comes around, I’ll make sure provide the link to vote.
We’ve already successfully done this once when we helped Sydney Rhame win $1,000 from Kudzu. I’m pretty sure we can do it again.

Talking dogs, please! Explaining, documentary-style, the benefits of dog-ownership for the human population.
I’m checking in with my TV news pals to see if there are any takers.
This is awesome! I’m going to make a video this weekend…
Send me any ideas y’all might have! Some friends and I will work on a video and send it to DM when it’s ready…
I think that it would be great to start out showing how sad a dog is with no dog park, maybe a fat dog sitting on a couch watching tv. Then, WOW, the dog gets to go to an awesome new dog park.
I like S’s storyline. Background music for the fat bored dog scene would be some slow sad blue tune. Then, when the dog’s ears perk up and it starts running around all happy like, the music bursts into some fast southern banjo — think of a Dukes of Hazard chase scene combined with intro music to Car Talk. Lights, camera, action!
Wow, only three entries? Beneful needs to fire a publicist.
Be sure to read and heed the official rules.. there are a bunch of ‘em. It would stink to be disqualified on a technicality!!
Let me know if you need any “spokesmodels”. Also, said spokesmodels want you to know that they would LOVE a swimmim’ pool in their new dog park.
Will do. Swimming pool is a must. Plus an agility course would be nice as well..
As long as we have $500,000 to spend, how about a salt-water swimming pool? I’ve heard they’re easier to maintain (a definite concern) if we’re going to include a water feature.
Rez, which dog park are you gonna propose?
If someone has a “spokesmodel” who’s trained to bark, whine, or otherwise make doggie-type sounds on cue, the video could have the pooch “describing” (in doggie language) all the reasons s/he’d like a dog park, along with the stuff that should go in it– the human co-star could then “translate” the dog’s wishes into people language. Doing it at the scene of a current dog park that needs a makeover (Oakhurst’s came to my mind first), kind of like a guided “doggie tour” for the video, would be really cute. Maybe you could include some of Beneful’s products in the video, too, or at least a mention of them: e.g., the spokesdog could “say” that s/he loves Beneful, but dogs need exercise to be healthy, too– or not (they might think that was sucking up). I dunno– just throwing that out there. I know I’m a huge sucker for animal videos, so I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!
One of my girls WILL actually bark on command–alot, ok, too much! She’s photogenic too!
One word — DogCam.
I would love to see agility courses at some of the local dog parks. You know, tunnels, ramps, and the like. I’ve seen these at dog parks in other cities but don’t think Atlanta has any!
Two new entries today for a total of 5.
A nice big bag of Beneful in the background of the sad dog would be helpful…
I think a dog full of energy (from Beneful dog food of course) with no where good to let it all out is maybe a better choice than the fat dog , just so the link of Beneful and fat dog doesn’t get made!
do all the dog parks have doggie water fountains? I’ve only been by the Adair dog park a couple of times, and it seems like there isn’t fresh water unless really nice dog park users bring jugs to fill the bowls. human and doggie fountains would be great!
also, our dog loves to dive into a shipping box full of foam packing peanuts- is there the equiv of the chuck-e-cheese room full of balls to dive in available for dogs? ours would go nuts.
I also love the proposed idea of the doggie web cam, so dogs could see if their buddies are there to play with. We could pitch that Beneful could have a good tie in where they host the image and get lots of hits/constant continuous advertising.
