Ryan Stewart Leaving Mac Magee, Going To Farmstead 303

    Decatur Metro | May 18, 2010

John Kessler is all over the restaurant news in his ‘hood today.

Just hours after revealing that Chef Joe Truex of Repast would take over at Watershed for Scott Peacock, he drops another culinary bombshell on his Decatur community.

A source at Feast in Decatur has confirmed that Ryan Stewart will be the new chef at Farmstead 303 — the new, soon-to-open venture across the street that replaces the defunct Depeaux. Stewart, who is currently finishing up a gig at Mac McGee’s Irish Pub, earned a fan base for his work at the Glennwood in East Atlanta.

What else ya got up your sleeve, John?

That’s a bummer for Mac McGee’s. I liked the food, except they kept running out of menu items. I hope they get another chef with high standards. Best luck to Ryan Stewart and Farmstead 303.

Check that. Gotta admit a rather “friendly” piece of reporting, given the lack of information of what is going to happen to his signature restaurant.

Is the wife going to run it still? Would be great. One of the best restaurants in Atlanta.

I agree. Repast is great, but I thought Watershed was a bit tired. Hopefully with the Truex’s splitting up, we end up with two great restaurants, rather than one.
I’m excited about Ryan Stewart going to Farmstead as well, but hope Mac Magee’s can keep up their kitchen. They had a good review in the AJC and I’ve been meaning to try something there besides a pint.

I went Sat, June 5, but was very disappointed. The menu has been reduced to what looks more like typical bar food. The fries were good and the lamb stew was nice, but most of the foodie-type items have left the menu. The blancmange is not there and the chocolate pots-de-creme are gone too. My husband’s fish was not as good as the time we went in early May. The batter was doughy next to the fish. Nobody had to tell us the chef Stewart left. My husband guessed right away. I confirmed this by checking on the internet… Go and try it, by all means, but just for the alcohol and to hang out with friends.
