Found Decatur object: Glennwood first grade orchestra, 1924
Andisheh Nouraee | May 4, 2010While helping my wife’s grandparents scan some items for a scrapbook, I found a small piece of Decatur history.
It’s a newspaper photo of the Glennwood school’s first grade orchestra, in 1924.

hey andisheh! this was on the front (local) section of cnn.com today.
you, sir, are a gadabout.
Do you have the URL? I couldn’t find it when I looked.
Very sweet. Tonight the Glennwood Academy 5th grade band had it’s year end performance. They did a great job, but their “uniforms” weren’t quite as cool as those worn by the 1924 World’s Youngest Orchestra.
Nor did the conductor have a false (?) mustache, but the 2010 incarnation still rocked a Queen medley … as an encore! Take that, roarin’ twenties.
Wow! That’s incredible. Lenin died in 1924. MGM was founded in 1924. Mercedes-Benz came into being that year as well. Calvin Coolidge signed a piece of legislation granting citizenship to all Native Americans.
I love it. These kids are so cute.
I also love that my daughter’s grandmother (on her stepmom’s side) attended Glennwood just as my daughter did.
The Glennwood 5th grade band sounded great last night! I was impressed and encouraged that both Mr. Williams, band director for Renfroe, and Mrs. Williams (not related), band director for DHS, were both there! What a show of support and a true interest in their future students, and such a great example to set for the kids.
When is someone going to do something about all of the glib Hitler chatting?
