Climate Change Leader Coming Back to Agnes Scott
Decatur Metro | January 22, 2010Emily sends along this email from Agnes Scott College’s Michelle Hall announcing the return of “a pioneer of the campus sustainability movement”, David Orr.
According to a press release sent along with the email, Orr’s visit “is the inaugural event for Agnes Scott’s Environmental and Sustainability Studies program created in 2009. In addition to his lecture to the wider community on January 26th, Orr “will teach an introductory environment and sustainability studies class and have a roundtable discussion with faculty.”
After the jump, read Michelle’s full message, which includes the date and time of Orr’s lecture along with a brief bio.
David Orr, a former Agnes Scott professor and national leader in the climate change debate will be on campus Tuesday January 26th at 7:30 PM.
His lecture “Down to the Wire: Education in a Hotter Time” will be in Presser Hall and followed by a book signing (books will be available in the outer lobby).
He is a major speaker and we hope that you will attend, invite colleagues in the community and encourage our students to take the time to expand their learning outside the classroom.
We are hoping for a big crowd for Dr. Orr’s homecoming to Agnes Scott. More about David Orr is attached and information about his latest book is below.
David Orr is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics at Oberlin College. His latest book, Down to the Wire: Confronting Climate Collapse, has been praised by Ray Anderson, Founder and CEO of Interface Inc., to be “a sweeping synthesis of science, politics, history, and public policy…this very important book envisions a road map to a livable future.” The book is significant for any individual institution that has made the commitment to help address climate change locally, regionally or nationally.
