Afternoon Accident at E. College & Commerce Creates Traffic Mess

    Decatur Metro | July 17, 2009

    accident college commerce

Nick sends along this pic and reports (via Twitter) a pretty nasty accident at East College & Commerce around 2:15p this afternoon.  He also mentions that traffic is pretty much “FUBAR” at this point while responders clean up the mess.  No word on injuries.

Needless to say, you probably want to avoid this intersection for a bit.

Live right down Columbia from this intersection, pass it multiple times a day. It’s a nasty intersection. Surprised there aren’t more accidents.
Not that this has anything to do what happened here, but why there are no turn signals at this intersection is beyond me.

I am so with you on this–used to drive my kids to preschool every day & turn at this intersection–the wrecks and near-wrecks I saw from people turning left onto Commerce with no turn signals was really scary. Turn signals would be a very easy fix.

I was in the midst of this traffic mess–it had as much to do with the accident as it did with a train stopping for 20 minutes or so, cutting off traffic at Candler/Trinity and Commerce also.

When I passed it, there was a Black SUV in the intersection also, and several police officers. They didn’t seem to be paying undo attention to the person in the drivers seat of the CRX, which makes me think that person was ok.

Thanks for the eyewitness account Daren. Glad to hear to it doesn’t seem like anyone was hurt.
