Report: Terrell Bolton Took 56 Unapproved Comp Days
Decatur Metro | April 20, 2009Atlanta Unfiltered does some top-notch digging and turns up records that show embattled DeKalb Police Chief Terrell Bolton took 56 unapproved comp days between October 2007 and his “firing” by CEO Burrell Ellis earlier this year.
Nothing shows dedication to a community or a cause like unapproved days off!
On the one hand I’m completely disgusted that someone in a position like that would abuse it like that. On the other hand I can’t help but wonder where in the world Vernon Jones, et al were during all this – did no one notice?
Clearly he wasn’t trying hard enough. In terms of logging vacation days, our former president had him lapped by years.
56 days? That’s more like a leave of absence.
This is shameful. He should not only have been fired but should be required to pay back the unapproved days.
He was a preening rooster while shouting for more resource dollars. Good Riddance.
Government at its finest.
I just hope it doesn’t turn into a lengthy & expensive lawsuit.

Thanks for the timely Bush-bashing. Very relevent and added so much insight to the topic of local police personnel issues. Great contribution.
I am with George….uselss comment there lump…
Hopefully this will kill Bolton’s suit against DeKalb County. Maybe the county can counter-sue for the unapproved time.
It will be interesting seeing how big media such as the AJC and Atlanta TV news cover this important story given that it originated on a blog. Will they cover it all?
The truth hurts, eh George?
My sentiments also, George.
Yeesh…Pardon me for trying to inject a little humor, partisan or otherwise.
Let’s try this: I’m shocked — SHOCKED — that a person in a position of authority would abdicate duty and act so irresponsibly! For shame! My moral outrage knows no bounds!
That better?
This part of the story actually did originate in the AJC, or at least was there about the same time as the blog.
I’ve been watching Dale Russell’s stories on Fox 5 for months on this story and I believe he had already covered nearly everything contained in the report.
I do wonder what sort of oversight was involved. That Bolton was criminally incompetent is apparent. That no one saw fit to call him on it is probably worse.
So Bolton has said these absences were for medical reasons, right? There are easy ways to confirm that. The fact that they were unapproved suggests that someone already did. So why let him continue to get away with it?
Well! I am appalled. Lump, your comment was so far out line that I am shocked that there has not been the equivalent of an virtual tea-bag revolt.
And unlike your Bush-bashing comment, George’s reply calling you out was a very pertinent and value contribution to this blog and the general public dialogue. Much like my comment!
I, for one, thought this was a hilarious comment.
I read the AJC’s coverage in this mornings paper. They put it on page 2 of the Metro section. And while the story may have been posted online by the AJC at approximately the same time, the reporters (to their credit) stated in their article that the Atlanta Unfiltered was the first to have the story.
