Decatur Police Dragged Into Terrell Bolton Mess

    Decatur Metro | May 12, 2010

Well this is just great.  From the AJC…

Decatur police are investigating allegations that DeKalb County officials illegally detained former DeKalb Chief Terrell Bolton and stole his diabetes testing kit.

According to a police report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Bolton asked officers to issue arrest warrants for CEO Burrell Ellis, Sheriff Thomas Brown and county chief operating officer Keith Barker on charges of false imprisonment, theft by taking and criminal trespass.

Decatur Police Chief Mike Booker said Tuesday that the investigation is in the preliminary stages.

Report: Terrell Bolton Took 56 Unapproved Comp Days

    Decatur Metro | April 20, 2009

Atlanta Unfiltered does some top-notch digging and turns up records that show embattled DeKalb Police Chief Terrell Bolton took 56 unapproved comp days between October 2007 and his “firing” by CEO Burrell Ellis earlier this year.

Nothing shows dedication to a community or a cause like unapproved days off!

How Do You Know When Your Job Has "Jumped the Shark"?

    Decatur Metro | February 24, 2009

Is being charged with insubordination, misuse of property, and conduct unbecoming an officer not enough to signal maybe its time to move on?  How about if you turn around and threaten to sue your employer in federal court? Can the boss/employee relationship ever really be the same after that?  (“Hey, remember that time when I sued you…that was HILARIOUS!”)

Fmr. DeKalb Police Chief Terrell Bolton seems to think so.

    Ellis Pushing Bolton Out?

    Decatur Metro | February 12, 2009

If you read the AJC or watch local news on your tele, you’ve probably seen the crapload of recent articles about DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis taking telecommuting DeKalb Police Chief Terrell Bolton to task.

After days of diabetes, forced leave and closed door meetings that confused the AJC to the point that they began writing articles with strange titles – like “Crucial meeting for DeKalb CEO, top cop coming to head?” (can a meeting really “come to a head’?  Don’t tensions “come to a head”, which RESULT in something like a crucial meeting?  I digress…) – this morning its reported that while Bolton is on “temporary” leave, he’s been replaced by Maj. William O’Brien.

The DeKalb Officers blog, which was created in opposition of Bolton’s appointment by fmr. supreme leader Vernon Jones, loves the choice of O’Brien, a 24-year veteran of the dept.

For all of us who have been unnerved by the recent increase of crime in Oakhurst and surrounding areas, any news that gives hope of a revived, happier and better functioning DeKalb Police Dept is good news.
