Arrest Made in Oakhurst Park Robbery

    Decatur Metro | February 15, 2009 | 4:10 pm

Scott points to this posting on the Oakhurst Message Board…

On Saturday February 14, 2009 members of the Decatur Police Department Criminal Investigation Division arrested a 22 year old male for the recent armed robbery in Oakhurst Park. Officers served a search warrant pursuant to the arrest and located evidence linking the
    suspect to the armed robbery.

As usual, nice work Decatur PD!

I think this is a good opportunity for people who want to make a difference but don’t know how to do so. Because this will now move forward into the judicial system, it will begin to fall under the purview of “politics.” Which means numbers can influence the outcome.

Is there anyone who communicates regularly with the Decatur PD who can get the details on which county prosecutor gets this case? Because I think that person should be inundated with calls from Decaturites looking to send a message. I’m talking about literally burying them in pressure. And, if there ends up being a trial, I’m talking about packing that place to let it be known that Oakhurst is not a place you want to be robbing people.

Just some thoughts. Anyone close to the PD/Dekalb court system that could chime in with some guidance?

The PD does not influence the DeKalb Court System. You need to be communicating with the DA’s office. Get a case number from the PD and follow up from there.

Here is the booking info on the “perp”.

Link isn’t working Tracy. Just getting a Oracle log-in screen…

      Go to OJS Dekalb County.
      Click on Enter.
Select the description that best identifies you. I think “Other Individual” at the bottom probably fits most people. (It doesn’t matter which one you select – everyone sees the same thing.)
Click the Jail ID/Name Search tab at the top.
Enter SPN number X0288410 and hit search.

Not surprisingly, you will see that this “perp” has a lengthy “rap sheet.”

The armed robbery occurred about 500 feet from the “perp’s” house.

Check out the perp’s booking photo. Looks like the laces from a pair of Air Jordans.

I understand the perp was out on bond from Atlanta for a similar offense.

Does anyone know if he has any connection to the robbery in front of Kavarna? Is there any news on that case? Congrats to the Decatur PD for excellent work on this one!

    11. Steve says:
      February 17, 2009 at 5:47 pm

I thought the robbery in front of Kavarna was the one in question – or were there two recently?

    12. Everyone get a clue... says:
      February 17, 2009 at 7:45 pm

there were two…this was a broad daylight armed robbery at oakhurst park….4:30 PM

    13. Steve says:
      February 17, 2009 at 8:08 pm

Sorry, I forgot about the other, which was late at night as I recall. The perp arrested Saturday with the record in Atlanta was for the daylight robbery.

    14. Golazo says:
      February 18, 2009 at 6:33 pm

So what’s the name step? Who do we call in the State’s Atty’s office to make sure this guy (with two probation violations, who committed a felony with a weapon within yards of a playground and a Boys’ and Girls’ Club) doesn’t get shuffled out the door on a plea agreement?

    15. Scott says:
      February 18, 2009 at 6:36 pm

It’ll be a DeKalb county prosecutor, Golazo. Haven’t been able to get a name yet but, when I do, I’ll post it here. That person’s phone needs to ring. A lot.

    16. MM says:
      February 18, 2009 at 7:36 pm

Amen Scott. Let’s pound him with e-mails and calls.

    17. Golazo says:
      February 18, 2009 at 7:46 pm

      Hey Scott-

According to the OJS and DeKalb Bar Association websites, if I’m looking at them correctly, Courtney Johnson, an assistant district attorney for DeKalb County, is prosecuting. Her office number is 404 371 2483. Her email is [email protected] .

      http://www.dekalbbar.org/Search/AttorneyInfo.asp?a=937

If, on the OJS website, you select Mr. Johnson’s earlier (August ’07) booking for his second probation violation, you can then select a more useful mug shot.

    18. Scott says:
      February 18, 2009 at 9:09 pm

The unofficial word on the street is that the DeKalb County prosecutor is ADA Courtney Johnson. Her phone number is (404) 371-2483; her email is
      [email protected] .

The single greatest message the neighborhood can send is that we take this crime personally. If you’re an Oakhurstian, or even if you’re not, spread this information around to your neighbors and encourage them to invest a minute or two to be heard. DA is an elected position and folks in Decatur are pretty good voters. Demand a severe response.

Sorry, Golazo. Missed your post when I commented before. Investigative props are rightfully yours!

    20. Decatur Metro says:
      February 19, 2009 at 9:16 am

Golazo’s post got caught in the spam blocker because it has more than one link…that’s why you didn’t see it earlier Scott.

    21. Genevieve says:
      February 19, 2009 at 10:24 am

      ADA’s email is: [email protected]
I believe the address you all posted included an improper “h”
I just sent her an email to the above address and it went through.
