Another organization catalyzed by annexation is the Dekalb Independent Business Association (www.dekalbbiz.com). We are an organization that has 95% property and business owner participation in declining Avondale’s “offer” to seize …. I mean, annex our commercial district. Avondale has a population of 2146 residents, around a 3 million dollar budget and 47 city employees. They had decided they would annex our district and, even better, we would have not voting rights … taxation without representation! Hmm.

Hey Avondale, How about consolidation! Perhaps you need to look at becoming part of Dekalb County or Decatur. If ya gotta raid the neighbors perhaps your are a bit bloated or unnecessary.

All that being said, our organization was catalyzed by the proposed annexation but it has introduced an amazing group of people to each other.

Knowing your neighbors is real Homeland Security!

Annexation also brought neighbors together who are for annexation, particularly in the southeast portion of unincorporated 30030.
