Quick. Everyone start arguing about how it’s not right to call a drink “Shankill Road Car Bomb” in these awfully violent times.
Interesting to see a Dubliner use this term. I avoided ordering Irish Car Bombs when I was in Ireland and stuck with the Kilkenny.
Actually, it is in pretty poor taste considering the years and years of terrorism in, and related to Northern Ireland!
Yeah but St. Practice Day? That is hilarious. I am ROFL.
CSD Mom, yeah, you’re right. Credit where credit is due. St Practice Day is a good one!
I was surprised at the Shankill Road reference myself. I’d imagine anyone protestant who lived – or had friends & relatives – in Belfast during The Troubles would find it highly offensive. It’s sort of like having a bar in Manhatten with a drink called a “Twin Towers Crash Landing” …
Yes. And, I was also wondering how long it would take for the discussion to get catty (is that term appropriate and/or offensive?) enough for DM to step in and delete comments and/or close the thread. I’m like a child, right? Is it getting “personal” yet?
Oh gosh….just for all of this I am going to go to the Grange today and get smashed.
And Colonel…liberals tolerate everything….that they agree with.
All else….off to the Gulags and re-education!
LOL…
You got me. My bleeding heart doesn’t “agree” with mean-spirited haikus.
In terms of editing and closing threads…I try my best to abide by a few simple rules (ask any regular reader and they’ll tell you what they are) and I try to enforce them as fairly as possible. Its not perfect and I invite you to give me good examples of moderation on better sites where everyone is anonymous. Keeping things civil so more people feel comfortable commenting ain’t as easy as it sounds.
Well….I could be mistaken, but I detect a clear bias in the picking and choosing of who’s or what kind of “personal attacks” are edited. Private site. Owner’s right – to be sure. I am not of the opinion that all media resources must be balanced to suit everyone’s delicate sensibilities, so I can even applaud it. Just an observation. Frankly, I don’t know where the man gets his stamina from. It IS impressive. Oh the humanity!
