    Antiques On Decatur Square?

    Decatur Metro | February 11, 2008

Rus points out that the first floor of the old Trust Company bank on the Square is full of antiques. (Building is on the left in the picture above)

My wife and I did a walk by and confirmed. It’s chock full of furniture, pottery and art, all with price tags! So unless, another antiques store is using the old Trust Company for storage, it looks like this marvelous building with a terrible facade might FINALLY open for business.

Signs outside still announce that both floors are for lease, but hopefully they’re just outdated.

UPDATE: Another Russ (this time with a second “s”) notes that this is just a temporary bazaar being held in the space until mid-month.  Oh well…)

See below for a 1948 photo that shows the bank without that hideous facade.

The furniture in the suntrust building right now is just a temporary bazaar, lasting until, i believe, the 16th.

Actually the second Rus(s) is correct. There is another business coming into the Trust building very soon, but I couldn’t get the owner of the building to budge on what it was. He said that the new business would be taking control of the space this month though.

The bldg owner is vehement about putting another bank in the bldg. And because of this has let it sit vacant for…god, how long now?

If there’s a new tenent, he has been quiet about it–a trait for which he’s not known.

Grand Opening Party for The Trust Building, Friday June 13th 4-8PM, refreshments. 8 New business’s move into the upstairs of the renovated building….
You are all welcome to come and check it out. Maybe in a year or so we can work on the new front elevation or take it back to its original splendor. But until then lets celebrate the creative loft type atmosphere of these new small business owners and their offices overlooking the square!

One year anniversary of Wordsmith’s Bookstore in The Trust Building, with festivities all weekend long starting on Friday, June 13th. Go to http://www.wordsmithsbooks.com/ for more info. Zach has some great entertaiment for Friday night!
We understand that Saba the new restaurant next door to the Trust Building will be having their grand opening the same night as the Grand Opening of the Office’s in The Trust Building, Friday, June 13th.
