Vinyl Lovers Rejoice: Top 3 Must-Listen Records This Month!

By Tyler Jenkins

Vous avez une platine ? Voici 3 vinyles à écouter ce mois-ci

This month, our turntables are constantly spinning records by Mark Pritchard & Thom Yorke, Kids Return, and Doechii, all available at FNAC.

Tall Tales by Mark Pritchard & Thom Yorke

On one hand, there’s the genius Thom Yorke, iconic frontman of Radiohead, part of The Smile, and a prolific artist known for unforgettable soundtracks like Suspirium. On the other, an iconic name from the 1990s British electronic scene, particularly ambient music, Australian Mark Pritchard, whose past collaborations include works with Aphex Twin and PJ Harvey. Following their initial musical encounter in 2016, these two exchanged ideas during the pandemic about a collaborative album that turned out to be exceptionally rich. The album features visceral sound textures that are both bold and familiar, haunted by narratives voiced by Thom Yorke and is surprisingly visual in essence.

1997 by Kids Return

Kids Return, a name borrowed from filmmaker Takeshi Kitano, suits musicians Adrien Rozé and Clément Savoye, reminiscent of two musical Peter Pans. Following their highly acclaimed debut album, Forever Melodies, they return with a pop album that boldly embraces and masters Anglo-Saxon influences. Listening to 1997, the birth year of the duo, one is reminded of British pop in the style of Blur and the lively French touch of Phoenix. Notably, Thomas Bangalter has taken an interest in these ten compelling tracks, driven by both electric guitars and synthesizers.

Alligator Bites Never Heal by Doechii

She is THE emerging female talent in American rap. Alligator Bites Never Heal, which earned her three Grammy nominations and won the award for Best Rap Album, is finally available on vinyl in France… in a limited gold-colored edition, no less. Having intensely practiced dance and gymnastics, she quickly learned to channel her discomfort caused by, among other things, school bullying, through her writing. Noticed by Beyoncé and signed to the same label as Kendrick Lamar, she has made a name for herself with the compelling and highly expressive Alligator Bites Never Heal, which deals as much with challenging therapy sessions as with the desire to bring melody and orchestration to rap. Indeed, the wounds inflicted by alligators may not heal, but Doechii’s music certainly soothes our souls.
