“Horrific” Hit & Run in Emory Village This Morning

    Decatur Metro | July 13, 2010 | 1:22 pm

UPDATE: An eyewitness recalls what they saw in a comment…

It was indeed a pedestrian accident, a horrific hit and run. I saw the whole thing from the #6 Marta bus.

Right around 8:30, a woman started briskly crossing North Decatur from Everybody’s Pizza side. Our bus in the right lane probably blocked her view, and the view of the silver Jeep speeding up to run the yellow light. They collided and her legs were mangled. The car continued on while tons of bystanders and bus riders were able to help the woman who was conscious. It happened so fast, so don’t quote me on any of these facts, but that’s how I remember it.

I never want to see anything like that again.

    ———————————————

It looks like we’ll have to go back to the old method of crowd-sourcing info on this one, since I don’t have an easy contact at DeKalb PD.  Can anyone add to Kathy’s report of the accident in Emory Village this morning?

Big scene in Emory Village this morning, around 8:45–I wondered if you knew what was up, because I think you know everything that happens in the area. Multiple police cars, a fire truck, an ambulance that pulled out around the time I arrived, and traffic backed up all the way down North Decatur to Haygood and Briarcliff. There was one car parked in front of what I persist in calling Jagger’s, facing the wrong way. Honestly, my fear was that this was a pedestrian- or bicyclist-related accident, since there was only one car at the scene.

Four Car Accident at College Ave & New Street Yesterday

    Decatur Metro | November 23, 2009 | 10:40 am

Stacy tweeted about College being blocked yesterday afternoon and Lance sent in an email this morning about “a bad wreck around 5pm yesterday @ College/Commerce”.

Decatur PD, being the responsive bunch they are, provides us with the details this morning….

…a 4 car accident did occur at the intersection of E. College and New Street on 11/22/09. The “at fault” motorist failed to maintain lane and struck another vehicle. That vehicle subsequently struck an embankment. The “at fault” motorist rear-ended another vehicle and that vehicle rear-ended another the vehicle. Motorists 1, 3 and 4 were treated and released at the scene. An occupant of one of the vehicles complained of injury and was transported to the hospital.

Once again, thanks to the Decatur Police for keep us all informed!

Scooter & SUV Collide at E Ponce & Commerce

    Decatur Metro | August 13, 2009 | 9:44 am

    scotter wreck ponce

Andisheh sends in this photo and Julia provides this account:

Right in the intersection of Commerce and Ponce an SUV and a guy on a moped/scooter collided. He was pretty shaken up but the ambulance and cops got there pretty quickly.

On Twitter, Robbie Harris reports that the scooter driver was a 16-year old kid.

I’ll try to find out the scooter rider’s condition. UPDATE: Andisheh reported on Twitter that the scooter driver survived.

What is with this intersection lately?  I wonder if there’s any sort of report that shows the most dangerous intersections in Decatur.    That could be pretty interesting.

Ponce Accident Suspect Arrested in Northeast Atlanta?

    Decatur Metro | August 9, 2009 | 10:49 pm

UPDATE: Now the report has been pulled off the DeKalb Officers blog…so I’m guessing something’s amiss.  Also, as it was pointed out to me in an email this morning, Freedom Parkway and Memorial Drive do not intersect.  Apparently I was blinded to this fact, by all the other conflicting data in this report.

I’m going to pull the post and leave this explanation for the time being.  If I receive more info I’ll let you know.

Fatal Wreck at East Ponce and Commerce This Morning

    Decatur Metro | September 2, 2008 | 8:44 am

I’m hearing word from readers about a fatal car accident at the intersection of East Ponce and Commerce this morning.

WABE and WSB radio have reported that there were three cars involved including an overturned van and that all lanes of Ponce were blocked.

Scott writes in with a first hand account. “…it was complete mayhem. Decatur cops had what looked like E Ponce, from Glennwood Academy to Candler, shut down and taped off. All the traffic was being diverted…”

I’m looking into it.  If you’ve heard or seen anything else, please comment or write in.

2 Year-Old Hit By Cab in Oakhurst

    Decatur Metro | August 22, 2008 | 1:19 pm
    Intersection of Spring and Fayetteville

    Intersection of Spring and Fayetteville

Scott points out this CBS46 story that reports a three two year-old was hit by a taxi at the intersection of Spring Street and Fayetteville Road in Oakhurst today. The blurb states that the child was “hurt”, but there is no word yet on his/her condition.

UPDATE: 11alive reports the child was 2 years-old, not 3, and that injuries were “non-life threatening”. Also the article states the accident happened around 12:30p.

Let’s hope that they are OK. Please write in if you have details.

    Stay Tuned…

UPDATE II:  The two year-old boy, Antonio Jackson Jr., will reportedly make a full recovery.  Picture and video can be found at CBS46. h/t: InDecatur
